Betty - the time frame isn't stated here, but these might be places to check: http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/251627/The-Hague http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_V,_Prince_of_Orange I found it necessary at times to 'think outside the genealogy box' and went to the available literature - once you get closer to a time frame and whether they WERE in the Netherlands - many people migrated from the Netherlands to Pennsylvania - mine did. Do all kinds of searches on Google and DO go down the various rabbit holes - can't get the rabbit without doing this. I have also had very good responses from the rootsweb mail lists in the Netherlands when looking for some of my early ancestors (I was searching for them in the mid 1600s and they were 'with the Royal family in exile' in the Netherlands during that time). Unfortunately, many records no longer exist in the Netherlands because of the bombing and fires during WW2 - HOWEVER, as we know in San Francisco from the 1906 earthquake and fire, some records can be found - some were 'hidden' in cellars and are now in archives so still can be searched - on site unfortunately, but sometimes a kind volunteer will go to the archives and do some digging for you. I had no language problem - Europeans are mostly fluent in multiple languages. Also, these vital records are 'beginning' to be transcribed - slowly - and will be available on the IGI. I am not holding my breath but do check from time to time. Also maybe someone else has a worldwide subscription to ancestry - the one I share with a cousin is only the basic UK. ancestry.uk: Name: Mary Anne Calvin Birth: abt 1857 - St George E, Middlesex, EnglandResidence: 1881 - St George in The East, London, England Also this with no date: Ireland, Index to Griffith's Valuation, 1848-1864 about Mary Anne Colvin Name: Mary Anne Colvin Location: Armagh, Killevy, Clogharevan, Village of Bessbrook Source Information: Heritage World Family History Services. Does anyone know how to find records regarding illegitimate children? My gggrandmother was supposedly the daughter of "The Prince of Hague" and Bridgette Calvin (Colvin). Bridgette was apparently a maid/lady in waiting/nurse, etc, in the castle. We don't know the "Prince's" name. Mary Annie Calvin was born about 1852/53. She first married Ambrose Kern and then Charles Brock (Brach, Broch). By this time she was in Lancaster PA. We have traced Charles and Annie in PA, and I am working with several cousins to try to solve this mystery. I have no knowledge of Ambrose Kern or any children from that marriage. Betty
