I think one month subscriptions are very nice. I float between databases and one month subscriptions. It works very well, for me because I seem to be all about genealogy for a  while, then drift over to scrapbooking, sewing for my granddaughters or sewing for dolls for a few months. Then I'm back to my research. When I'm back, I concentrate on one family and use one database at a time. In the long run, although I pay more with monthly subscriptions, I pay less per year for all the subscriptions.
