Hanford Journal Hanford, Kings Co., California Tuesday, 21 MAY 1895 ************************************ BIRTH -- SUTHERLAND -- In Hanford, May 16th, 1895, to the wife of Thomas SUTHERLAND, a son. [from Grangeville column] -- Mr. NEHLS is looking and feeling quite happy these days, all on account of the arrival of a new daughter at his home. We are glad to report that mother and child are doing well. DEATH -- WILLIAMS -- At the residence of Joseph A. WHITESIDES, near Lemoore, May 16, 1895, David H. WILLIAMS, a native of Wales, aged 54 years. [Deceased died quite suddenly. He had complained of being ill during the day, but his condition was not thought to be serious. About 6 o'clock he walked a short distance away from the house. Mr. WHITESIDES went about his work and when, half an hour later, he went to call Mr. WILLIAMS to supper, he found him dead. Deceased was crushed by rock in the mines at Coalingo several months ago and had a rib or 2 broken, and he had since been on the decline in health. He leaves a brother in Arizona, 3 sons in California and a daughter in Montana. His wife has been dead several years. 2 of his sons were present at the funeral. Services over the body of deceased were held at the Methodist church, under the auspices of Hanford Lodge of Odd Fellows, of which order deceased was a member, holding membership in Roslyn (Washington) lodge. Rev. W.L. MILLER delivered a short funeral discourse, after which the remains were interred in the Odd Fellows cemetery with the ritual ceremonies of that or der.] DEATH -- MALONE -- At the residence of Mrs. J.W. MALONE, south of Hanford, on Monday, May 20, of whooping cough, their infant son, Carl Wesley, aged 6 months, 2 days. [The funeral took place from the family residence this forenoon. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. W.E. PHILLIPS of the M.E. Church South. The remains were interred in the Hanford cemetery. The parents have the heartfelt sympathy of the community in their loss.] ----------------------------------------------------- CHARGED WITH CATTLE STEALING -- H.A. PIERCE, who has been farming in Eureka district, was arrested at McMullin's station, Fresno county, last Sunday on the charge of stealing a steer belonging to David BURRIS. The steer was in his possession when he was arrested by Constable BERNSTEIN. PIERCE was moving away from Eureka over to a ranch near Los Banos. He claims that the steer came to his ranch and broke into his pasture; that he found out who it belonged to and sent word to Mr. BURRIS to come and take it, as he was going to move away; that when he started away he left the steer in the pasture, but it broke out and again joined his cattle and he could not keep it out. PIERCE is charged with grand larceny and he is in the county jail in default of $2500 bail. ------------------------------------------------------- LOCAL PARAGRAPHS -- -C.O. BUTLER, of Remnoy, is slightly improved from his dangerous illness. -J. AVIANA, formerly a restaurant keeper here, is in Madera, and is thinking of going into business there. -F.H.B. ALLEN secured from the County Clerk yesterday a license to wed Minnie KITELY. -Henry MOFFITT and wife, of Lakeside, are visiting the family of their daughter, Mrs. O.H. EASTIN, at Eastin, Madera county. -Chris EVANS' 2 young daughters have been placed in the Sisters' Orphanage Home at Los Angeles. Rev. Father FARELLY of Visalia took them down there. -Jack CAMERON left Hanford last Friday evening for Cape Town, Africa, where he will construct an ore stamp mill. He returns to put up another mill for the same mining company he erected one for a few years ago. -Chas. ATWELL of Tucson, Arizona, has been visiting his parents in this city. -Arthur DILL returned to Hanford last Wednesday after a visit to his parents in Illinois. -Mrs. J.N. HOYT of Grangeville went to Tulare last Sunday accompanied by her sister, Miss MURRAY of Stockton, to visit friends. -Kelso SIM is quite ill at his home, south of Hanford. J.T. BLOOMER, formerly of this county, but who has recently been working for the State, on the capitol grounds, writes us that he has just received an appointment to a position on the water front in San Francisco. His family will reside at Golden Gate, Alameda county. H.M. RICHARDSON, of Angels Camp, Calaveras county, is visiting his brother-in-law, T.J. HERIFORD of Lakeside. He has 80 acres of choice land adjoining the latter's and says he hopes to come to Kings county, to remain, in the near future. ------------------------------------------------------ GRANGEVILLE -- -Mrs. HIGHT is recovering from an attack of the measles. -Miss Hannah LaFORTUNE is visiting her brother in Oakland. -Miss Dove ELLIS has returned from Los Angeles and is visiting her sister, Mrs. Lee BLOYD. ARMONA -- -W.S. CAMP and family are coming back to Armona. -The friends of Alex BAILEE will be glad to hear of his convalescence, under the care of Dr. DUNCAN.
