    3. Found this clipping in a book belonging to my grandmother. It's from the Hayward Journal,September, 1925 (no date but California became a state on Sept.9, 1850). First White Girl Born in County Welcomes Fiesta ______________ Four Generations to Participate in California Jubilee Fete. ______________ Of special significance to Mrs. Catherine MURRAY of 2831 Linden street is the California Diamond Jubilee celebration. For Ms. MURRAY is a "covered wagon baby," said to be the fist white child born in what is now Alameda county, was born at Mission San Jose in 1847, three yeas before California became a state. Mrs. Murray's pioneer father, Jeremiah FALLON left St. Joseph, Missouri for California March 1, 1846. Accompanying him was his wife and several score friends , each using the popular means of transportation of that time, the Prairie Schooner. Mrs. MURRAY was born in May 1847, shortly after her parents arrived at the mission, which had not assumed proportion of a town. The trip overland, Mrs. MURRAY said her parents later told her, was made without special incident, the Indians along the entire route being friendly. MURRAY township, in eastern Alameda county, was named after the MURRAY family of which Mrs. MURRAY's husband was a member. Mrs. MURRAY's daughter, Mrs. Joseph ALMADA, granddaughter, Mrs. Roderick MARENGER, and great-granddaughter, Virginia MARENGER, all born in Alameda county, are living in the Eastbay. Mrs. ALMADA resides in Hayward and Mrs MARENGER and her daughter live at 4017 Laurel avenue, Oakland. --------- The clipping includes a photograph of the foursome.
