The former handed the Judge a marriage license. The Justice's good humor was again aroused at the prospect of a neat fee and the pleasant duty of making people happy. The names of the couple were J. MARTENS and Neeltje VAN WYNEN. Both are natives of Holland and at present reside in Hanford. The Judge stepped outside and summoned Attorneys W.D. FOOTE and Ben G. WINTERS to act as witnesses. In an impressive manner he tied the conjugal knot. After this was over, he instructed MARTENS to kiss his bride. She snickered and drew back, but MARTENS, obeying the order of the court, awkwardly caught her and implanted a fervent kiss upon her ruby cheek. FOOTE suggested that the witnesses should kiss the bride, but this was ruled out as irrelevant, immaterial and incompetent. ------------------------------------------------------- HANFORD PUBLIC SCHOOL -- The Trustees of Oriental School District held a meeting yesterday evening, at which the teachers were given in charge of the different rooms as follows: 1st room, Miss P. The Kern City 'Standard' says in regard to the matter: "The family of LANGS, into which Mrs. LEGLER unfortunately married, is said to be about as disreputable a lot as could be found in a day's journey by the most rapid means of transportation. It is the general impression here that they are after the two or three thousand dollars insurance money she got at Mr. LEGLER's death, and that when they get it she will be turned adrift. However, she gets no sympathy." -------------------------------------------------------- GRANGEVILLE -- -Geo. LOBDALE has returned from Lake county where he went to visit his parents. -Geo.
