    1. [NORCAL] LONG family in NORCAL Digest, Vol 5, Issue 63
    2. Jeremy Nichols
    3. Kathy, John Henry HAUB (I have also seen this name misspelled HOBB) was the fifth child and second son of Frederick H. HAUB and Sarah Margaret OWENS. He married Winifred Lenore LONG (1894-1968) and they had two children, Velma and John, Jr. There are HAUBs in the area to this date but I am not sure that they are descended; the HAUB family moved to Modesto, California and that is where Frederick H. HAUB is buried. I have only one wife for John Snoddy Beach LONG, Mary COPPLE (1856-1914), who bore him six children. Since they were married in 1875 in Healdsburg, that must be the "second family" you are asking about. I didn't know about the first family with Mattie BRIANS. Thank you for that information. Do you want me to look for the divorce record? John's mother was Sarah Frances BEACH, which accounts for one of his middle names but I haven't tracked down the SNODDY family although they were also in Sonoma County at that time. I have probate records for a Benjamin A. SNODDY but have not actually read them and do not know of a definite relationship to the LONG family. If you will send an email to jeremy [at] cds1.net, I will send you what I have on John S. B. LONG's second family as well as an image of his death certificate. When I visited the Long Ranch Family Cemetery in the 1970s, I was intrigued by the tombstone for John Henry HAUB, as I hadn't heard his name before. > > Unfortunately, other than my own branch, I know very little about John LONG's descendants. My grandmother, Justena Ella LONG (1871 - 1946), was the daughter of John and his first wife, Mattie (Martha Frances) BRIANS (1855-1918). They were married in 1870 and divorced several years later. Like her father, my grandmother married twice. She and her first husband, Frank SEARLES, had two daughters, Ruby Ella (1889-1991) and Lenora (1893-1970); both daughters were born at the Long Ranch. Justena and her second husband, Frank S. KELLY, were the parents of Thelma (1910-1974). > > It's all convoluted, I think. > > I would appreciate knowing more about John's second family. > > Kathy > >
