Hanford Journal Hanford, Kings Co., California Friday, 10 JULY 1896 *************************** DEATH -- AZEVEDO -- In Hanford, July 8, 1896, Clara AZEVEDO, daughter of Manuel AZEVEDO, aged 5 months, 2 days. [from Local Paragraphs column] -- The Visalia 'Delta' of Thursday morning says: Louis BALEDIZ, a Mexican between 50 & 60 years of age, died last evening about 6 o'clock at a wood camp on Cameron Creek. He came here from Hanford and about a month ago was taken sick. Although blind, he was an expert woodchopper and measured his wood as well as any of his comrades. His death was probably due to malarial fever. [from Local Paragraphs column] -- There was a large attendance at the funeral services over the remains of Mrs. M.A. KING, at the Cumberland Presbyterian church in this city last Wednesday afternoon. Rev. C.H. REYBURN read the scriptures and delivered a brief discourse and a choir sang several hymns. The remains were deposited in a burial plot and in a brick vault in the new portion of the Hanford cemetery. The following persons from Traver attended the funeral services here: Mr.&Mrs. J.D. PILLSBURY Mr.&Mrs. KELLOGG Mr.&Mrs. Joseph ALCORN George BERTKIN John WOOTEN Misses Hattie & Carrie KERR [from Traver 'Advocate' of July 9th] -- Last evening at the residence of O.S. BREWER, his daughter, Flora, was wedded to Mr. George W. MEADE of Sanger. ------------------------------------------------------ LOCAL PARAGRAPHS -- -Miss Susie ALCORN has been ill for 2 weeks with fever, but is now some better. -P.J. DOODY closed his saloon at Traver last Tuesday, turning his stock over to his brother-in-law, T. GOOD, of Bakersfield. -Robert ELLIS of Armona has returned home after a trip of 2 months, spent principally in the State of Washington. He had an enjoyable vacation and returns greatly improved in health. -Miss Nettie HEFTON will be the deputy in the postoffice during the absence of A.M. SQUIRE, and Orin O'BRIEN will be the assistant. -Miss Mamie HATCH and her sister, Mrs. BOWNSTONE, of Lemoore, are visiting in Hanford today. -J.C. DOUGLASS returned from Coalinga Tuesday, where he had been to see his son Elwood, who was taken there for his health. He reports him as much improved. -Mr.&Mrs. H.J. LIGHT are in Hanford today from Lemoore. This is the 1st time, on account of bad health, that Mrs. LIGHT has been able to leave home for 3 months.
