    3. Lars, May I ask if Elder is a common name in Germany? The reason I ask is that here in Sacramento we had a prominent family named El;ser also, not your Elder, they were in Sacramento in the 1870's, in fact we have an area of So. Sacramento called Elder Creek. I know, there are those of you who believe Elder Creek is named after the Elderberry but it was actually after the Elder family.  marilyn ________________________________ From: Lars Oyane <loya@online.no> To: norcal@rootsweb.com Sent: Sunday, August 18, 2013 8:59 AM Subject: [NORCAL] Howard Morton Elder, born FL 1876 - in California 1920 - what became of him? - CADI? 2. My cousin has been looking for many years for her parents marriage. Her parents met while living in Klamath Falls, OR, and moved almost immediately to North Fork, Madera County, CA. Neither of them show up in the 1940 census, which leads me to believe they were married about that time. A relative checked Klamath County and Jackson County Oregon records and they were not married there. Looking for Florence Lorraine Alger (born April 1913 Etna, CA) and Donald Maxwell Gleason (born 1910 Nebraska). I have checked Ancestry with zero results. Anyplace else I should look? B. Gibson. George died in 1894.  He had a brother named Alexander who came to California in the summer of 1874.  Alexander was killed in a railroad accident on 1 Oct 1874.  (He was born 1832 so may have left a wife and children in New York.)  The obituary said he had been here three months.  At the bottom of the obituary was a note for New York papers please copy.  I know the births and deaths of my gr grandafather's 5 children.  Only my grandmother and one brother lived to be adults. William George Black died at age 29 unmarried. If I don't research my gr grandfather no one else will.  My cousins are not interested.  So I want to get everything I can on him.  This George Black who was naturalized in 1862 is the right age, but still may not be my George Black. 3. Marilyn I have only found George Black in one ceneus record, the 1880 census. That said he was born in New York, if that was so he would not have to be naturalized. He married Maggie Carter sometime in 1870. My grandmother was born in March 1871. various records say George was born in New York, Michigan and Canada. Another George Black in Oakland (of approximately the right age) was born in Scotland. I don't think this is the same Geroge Black because he is living with a 28 year old woman named Mary and a 4 month old male child by the name of H. B.
