She IS listed on the CA Death Index as having died in Madera County in Jan 1946. I was hoping her death cert might list her last known address... the couple lived at 208 South O Street from at least 1910 through 1940, according to the census pages, just two doors down from my mom and her family. Possibly Jay Chapel might have some info or maybe St Joachim Catholic Church. I haven't yet checked those two places. Since she was the last of the family... no siblings, parents, or cousins... 3. Dear Listers, Well, I just made another attempt in the 1880 census, and this time I found the Rentschler brothers living at Greenville, Darke Co., OH: ~~~~~ RENTSCHLER, Mary 48 wid Ger Ger Ger keeping house RENTSCHLER, William 21 son OH Ger Ger clerk in store RENTSCHLER, George 19 son OH Ger Ger clerk in store RENTSCHLER, Frank 15 son OH Ger Ger clerk in store RENTSCHLER, Mary 11 dau OH Ger Ger ~~~~~ They are also there in 1870, then the name is spelt RENSLER. Mother Mary (44) (widow) was born in Baden, while William (12), George (9), Frank (6) and Mary (1) were all born in OH. And now I found them even in 1860 at Greenville, Dsrke Co., OH. Father George (23) is a blacksmith born in Wuertt. Mary (30) is born in Baden, while son William (1) is born in OH. Name spelling looks like Renchler. Thus, the origin of George's family has been found, only the exact dare of birth is missing! And of course the other questions... Very sincerely yours, Lars E. 3. Dear Listers, Once again I must ask you for assistance. This young lady born in Minnesota to Norwegian emigrant parents left home for "the West" at a young age and ended up in San Francisco, CA. Here is what I know: Bertha Caroline LEMVIG, born Apr. 22, 1871 in Fillmore Co., MN, died May 26, 1953 in San Francisco, CA Bertha married 1st time about 1898 (date and place unknown) to: George William RENTSCHLER, born May of 1861 in Ohio to German parents, (had a brother William Clarence RENTSCHLER, born June of 1859 in Ohio) George was a book publisher and printer - resided San Francisco, CA from late 1880's - disappear about 1904 brother William lived in San Francisco, CA at least until 1925 Bertha married 2nd time about 1915 (date and place unknown) to: Frederick James MARTINDALE, born Apr. 24, 1873 at Galt, ON, died Aug. 29, 1925 in San Francisco, CA printing office contractor - resided San Francisco, CA Bertha and Fred are buried in the Mt. Olivet cemetery at Colma, CA And here are my questions: 1) Exact date and place of Bertha's 1st marriage to George Rentschler? 2) Exact date and place of Bertha's 2nd marriage to Fred Martindale? 3) Exact date and place of George Rentschler's birth? Strangely enough neither George nor his brother can be found in any early census records 4) What happened to George Rentschler about 1904? 2. Sheila Ruiz Harrell
    3. Hi, Does anyone know if Madera County allows death certificates to be read there in the office... not actually purchased? I have two people, husband and wife who died in 1942 and 1946. I would like to know where they were living at the time of their death... the street name/number in Madera that may be on the death cert... and where the wife is buried. Madera Cemetery District has no record of her burial in Madera County which is odd... her mother and husband were both buried at Calvary Cemetery so it's a mystery as to why this woman was not buried there too. The couple had no children and no other family. Thanks in advance for any help! Sheila

    3. Dear Sharon, RoseMary, Margie, Roland and other Listers! Thank you very much to all of you for additional comments on Howard Elder, his occupation, where he lived, on the life at Trona, CA etc. It is interesting to me since I have NEVER been in California myself, and yet so many descendants of "my" Norwegian emigrant families have ended up there! l My guess is, as I have already said, that Howard Elder probably left CA shortly after 1920. Maybe he went to mine in NV, NM or CO? Too bad there aren't any good death indexes for any of these "mining" states... Well, let's hope he'll show up somewhere, sooner or later...!
