    3. It hasn't rained too much...fires are out...spring has sprung at least around here it has. Just enough rain to get the weeds up about half of usual and the starter is bum in the mower and the tiller doesn't want to start. Been building earthtainers to grow veggies without using lots of water. Still recovering from major organ failure. Almost there, just a little more kidney healing to go. It's had to believe that 11 months ago I was in ICU for a couple of weeks, seven weeks total in the hospital. Trying to organize my genealogy files. Haven't put in much chatting time lately. 3. I thought I was safe from duplicates when I started using EdrieAnne and EdrieAnne B. I quickly found another EdrieAnne B and while we don't share a surname we do share a common ancestor back to about 1730, but he is independent of the source of our given names. She was named for her father and I was named for both grandmothers. My great grandmother was proud of being able to read and named her children for names she found in books. The first I found on CABI by the birth date and place of birth while the other two were there on the CABI as big as life with birth parents names. All have new birth certificates with our names on it as parents and where we were living at the time of the adoption - each child wanted to be known with different first names now so that may have made a difference too, I don't know. 2. There was a stepparent adoption in my family tree during the late 1940's in San Francisco.  The birth hospital remained the same, but a totally new birth certificate was issued without any detail - including the mothers  maiden name! ----- Original Message ----- From: "flavia hodges" <flavia1418@gmail.com> To: norcal@rootsweb.com Sent: Tuesday, January 21, 2014 3:20:05 PM Subject: Re: [NORCAL] Adoption Thanks to all for their input.  My only experience had been with an adoption from a children's home with neither parent involved and it resulted in the original birth certificate being sealed.  That was in Iowa and it would appear the basics are pretty much the same. 3. Several years ago a lady contacted me and asked about a man. I recognized the name, a checkered past, and asked how closely she was related to him. She said she was not, she was doing some research for an adopted person. I asked how she got his name as bio father of the person. She said she found the person listed on the CABI with the surnames of the bio parents. I was surprised and did not check, but maybe that is still a viable way to find birth parents names. Thinking about it now, she must have used the birthdate for a search term. Another give away must have been this adopted person was a twin.
