MARRIAGE -- BYRON-ORMSBY -- In Oakland, Cal., March 6, 1895, Albert E. BYRON of Lemoore and Miss Edith ORMSBY of Oakland. DEATH - BURDG -- At his residence, 3 miles NW of Hanford, on March 8, 1895, Joseph W. BURDG, aged 49 years, 5 months, 9 days. [Deceased was a highly esteemed citizens and his funeral, which took place from his late residence last Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, was largely attended. The remains were interred in the Grangeville cemetery.] DEATH -- BARKER -- In Grangeville, Monday, March 11, 1895, Mrs. Margaret E. BARKER, aged 58 years. [from Local Paragraphs column] -- S.L. LANDIS was apprised by telegram last Thursday evening fo the death of his mother. ------------------------------------------------------- ON A STOLEN HORSE -- A Young Rancher Rode Away -- He was Captured and Brought Back -- Ralph LANGLEY, alias William WAYNE, is a youth 16 years of age, who is now in the county jail charged with grand larceny. He is a farm hand and has been employed in this county, working at different times for Perry PHILLIPS, Lee RICHARDSON, A.M. TAYLOR and others. He worked for Mr. TAYLOR 3 months last summer, but all of a sudden went away, without notice. He returned to Mr. TAYLOR's (the E. PICKETT place, a few miles east of Hanford) some 3 weeks ago, and applied for work. As he was a good hand and a hard worker, Mr. TAYLOR engaged him. On Wednesday night of last week, probably between 10 o'clock and midnight, WAYNE decamped, riding off a sorrel horse belonging to Mr. TAYLOR's daughter and a saddle belonging to his son. He also took a pair of spurs, bridle, etc. Mr. TAYLOR discovered the theft the next morning and at once notified Constables GOODRICH and BERNSTEIN. While Constable GOODRICH telephoned to officers at several places and got out printed descriptions of WAYNE and the stolen property. Constable BERNSTEIN and Mr. TAYLOR drove at once to Fresno, as they had good reason to think that LANGLEY would go there. The 2 men made a thorough search of Fresno for LANGLEY, but did not find him and started to drive home. When just coming out from the city who should they meet but the missing young man, mounted on the stolen horse and with all the rest of the stolen property in his possession. He was at once arrested and on Friday was brought to Hanford by Constable BERNSTEIN and placed in jail. Constable BERNSTEIN learned while in Fresno that the boy's name was Ralph LANGLEY and that his parents resided at Fresno. The boy had made for home as soon as he left TAYLOR's and spent 1 night at home. His folks are very nice people and they deeply regret the trouble which their eldest son has got into. He was known in this county as William WAYNE. The young man gives as a reason for taking the horse and saddle that his late employer, TAYLOR, owed him $30 which he would not pay, and he took the horse to Fresno to see his folks about suing TAYLOR for the amount due. LANGLEY now languishes in jail and his case has not yet been set for trial. ------------------------------------------------------ LOCAL PARAGRAPHS -- -Mrs. R. FLETCHER, of Ohio, is visiting her brother, Prof. A.M. AYERS, of this city. -E. CORDARO was convicted in Judge Randall's court last Thursday, of assault on a Japanese prostitute and was fined $50, which he paid. -Ed MULGREW and Alex. TUTTLE, who have been in the employ of James CLARK for 5 years, will leave Hanford this week for Alaska. -J.H. TADLOCK, who stabbed Wm. BOWEN, had his preliminary examination at Dinuba. He was charged with intent to kill. The case against him was dismissed. -Rev. Eli REESE, formerly of Lemoore but now of Modesto, was thrown from a buggy on the 2d inst. and struck on his head. He sustained a bad cut on the left temple and was more or less injured in the back. -There will be a shotgun rabbit drive from Fred WARD's ranch, on Cross Creek, south, on next Sunday. All invited and lots of fun in prospect. -W.H. DUVALL left Hanford last Wednesday for Mendon, Ill, his furlough from the Burlington railroad, of which he is an old trusted employee, having expired. -S.L. JACKSON and wife, who have been for some time in Vancouver, B.C., returned to Hanford last week and expect to make this county their future home. DR. A.D. CAMERON returned last Wednesday from an extended visit to all the principal cities of the East and Canada. He was looking up the latest improved methods and devices in dentistry and comes back with many new ideas in regard to his chosen profession. MISS EVA FRAME, sister of Mrs. Chas. LAKE, returned to her home in Oakland this morning on the 6 o'clock train where she will end her life of single blessedness by becoming the bride of Charles DICKMAN, a resident of that city. MRS. W.S. RUSSELL, the great magnetic healer, will be at the residence of W.E. HILL, on 8th St., between Douty and Irwin, for a few weeks. She makes a specialty of curing cancers without the aid of a knife. Nearly all chronic diseases successfully treated. If you are afflicted, go and consult her. THE CASE against the bondsmen of H.B. SKINNER, who jumped his bail and was subsequently rearrested in San Francisco, was dismissed last week by Judge Jacobs, on motion of District Attorney SHORT. Judge SLACK, of S.F., who approved the bond, stated that the parties whose names were on the bond had been personated by other men. Under the circumstances, it was deemed best to dismiss the case, as the men whose names appeared on the bonds were not responsible for their names being there. D.A. WOODWARD has at his store a curio in the shape of a large tortoise shell. His mother, who has just returned from a visit to her daughter in Central America, brought it and other curios with her and Mr. WOODWARD says he will soon make a display of them in his show window. ------------------------------------------------------- GRANGEVILLE -- -L.C. BOGGS' 4 little girls are laid up with whooping cough. -Ed. ERLANGER, accompanied by 2 young ladies from Lemoore, were present at the dance on Friday night. -Mr.&Mrs. Lee BLOYD's little daughter, Hazel, is down with measles, and Pauline WADE, who has been sick with them for the past 10 days, is recovering rapidly. -L.D. BURRELL left Monday night to join his wife and daughter in Los Angeles. He took his tool chest with him and will probably stay some time, as Mrs. BURRELL's health is improving there. -On Saturday afternoon a party of little folks met at Mrs. CHAMBERS' to celebrate the 12th anniversary of Geo. RAILSBACK's birthday. The time was spent in games, indoors and out, and a general romp and good time was had. Plenty of cakes, oranges and candy were handed round and all joined in wishing Master George many happy returns of the day. -Albert AWALT, who has been very sick for some time past, had a relapse Tuesday and is now very low. His friends are anxious to move to Hanford, as soon as possible, to have him nearer his physician, Dr. MUSGRAVE, but up to this time (Sunday) they have not been able. The trip to Summit Lake is such a long one that it is impossible to give him the medical attention he needs. ARMONA -- -Miss Mabel McFEE is very sick. -O.W. CATLIN has returned from a visit to his sons at Exeter. -The family of Capt. DICKINSON has been afflicted with La Grippe. -Mrs. J.M. DICKINSON is entertaining her sister and niece, Mrs. and Miss DICKINSON of San Francisco. Transcribed by Dee Sardoch To see more old newspapers, visit http://www.newspaperabstracts.com/

    3. Hi Jan, I've found that most reunions are using electronic media for their notifications with very few notices in local papers! Classmates and Facebook have pages for reunion information. Check those as well as putting notices in local papers. Also, since so much is done in electronic media...the brick and mortar local papers are sometimes charging to put in notices that traditionally were done for free! 3. Hi Paul, Many thanks for taking the time to direct my efforts in downloading the 1905 San Francisco Market St. 'youtube' video. I am delighted to say that I was successful on my first download attempt thanks to your concise instructions. The download went smoothly, without a hitch, just as instructed. My "burning" of the CD was a bit troublesome but that too was accomplished with a bit of patience & persistence. Your help with this is greatly appreciated. 3. Bette Raymond is correct that youTube change their structure to flash video, but there is a way you can download the video. 1. Go to this site: http://keepvid.com/ 2. Enter the URL of the website where the video is located. Please note that the 1905 Quake video on the Flixxy site will not work - on that site it is an embedded flash video. You must have the direct url to the video. 3. You can find the 1905 video on youTube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NINOxRxze9k 4. Enter that url in the KeepVid site at the top of the page where it says to enter the URL 5. Click on the Download button to the right of the blue box where you entered the url. Do not click the big red Download button - that is a advertisement for a different program. 6. After entering the url and clicking the download button, you may have to wait some time since the site is usually very busy. 7. Once connected there will be a screen that says "Download Links". It will give you an option as to which screen resolution you want for your video. Choose one by clicking on the link and the download will start. This 1905 Quake video is 32 MB. This video should be in the public domain, but make sure you abide by the relevant copyright laws. 1. [NORCAL] Mrs. F. J. Jennert of Crescent City, Del Norte Co., CA 1932 - a challenge?

    3. Dear Listers, Happy New Year to all fellow genealogists in Northern California! I have a real challenge to discuss with you today: Anna Overby Gjerde died in Mentor, MN Apr. 29, 1932. Her obituary shows several surviving siblings, including her youngest sister: Georgia Jensine (Peterson) Overby, born in Goodhue Co., MN May 25, 1882 - Mrs. F. J. JENNERT of Crescent City, CA. I suspect Georgia died shortly thereafter, but no trace can be found of her in the 1930 census, and Jennert seems to be a non-existing name in CA. Maybe the name was misspelt? Maybe it was Jenner? Or Jenneret? I have no access to the CADI 1930-1939 - maybe it contains a good alternative for "my" Mrs. Jennert? Thanks a million in advance for your wonderful assistance in this matter! Very sincerely yours, Lars E. Oyane Geilo, Norway E-mail: lars.e.oyane@sdsl.no
