He graduated from San Diego State, where I did, too, (but a lot later!). He was in the Alumni Parade around 1980. I was there and asked if he would pose with my two sons, who were about 5 and 8 then. He was very gracious about it and I still have the picture. Awhile ago, I made copies and gave them to my sons, now 35 and 38 and the younger posted it on Facebook last night. He was a very nice man. Around 1948 Art had a daily show on KNBC, Taylor and O'Farrell, called a "Date at Eight." (8 a. m.) I was often his announcer. Art was a perfectionist and I thought he was kind of tough on me, but at 26 I wasn't the most mature person, and I wasn't that great an announcer. He passed away May 26, 2010 at age 97. Bill

Hi All, My wife and I were talking this afternoon and my wife remembered being taken along a street/alley in San Francisco which used to have or still has a bar/nightclub on it that had a woman dressed as a mermaid in a large water filled tank. Does anyone remember the name and location of the establishment. Sam
Thank you for this info. My great grandmother was born in San Diego in 1866, but I don't know when her parents came to CA. Her mother was born in IN in 1849 and her father was born in MI about 1835. Where/when they got married is a brick wall for me. One that I work on everytime I am in CA. My aunt went to her grave thinking we were CA Pioneers. I would like to solve the mystery. Hi Listers, My daughter checked out a wonderful non-fiction book from the Los Angeles Public Library. I feel it relates directly to the research many of our members are conducting. The book is: Encarnacion's Kitchen Mexican Recipes From Nineteenth-Century California Edited and Translated by Dan Strehl University of California Press, 2003 Briefly, Ruth Reichl, a food writer for the LA Times, researched the cuisine of Encarnacion Pineda, crediting her with writing the first cookbook written by a Hispanic in the United States, as well as the recording of Californio food---Mexican food prepared by Spanish-speaking peoples born in California. Are you saying they included someone, then excluded that same person? And why? I have a cousin (and wife) I'd like to nominate or whatever the word is called, not for my own sake, but for theirs, posthumously. He is listed as a pioneer in Victoria, B.C because he and his wife moved there about 1869. Does one have to have died in CA? Unfortunately that's an outdated file. You want to visit sfgenealogy.com or ndgw.org. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Yvonne Bowers Listmom, Webmom NORCAL, SOCAL http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~yvonne/norcallib.html On May 25, 2010, at 12:00 AM, norcal-request@rootsweb.com wrote: > Message: 8 > Date: Tue, 25 May 2010 01:49:02 +0000 (UTC) > From: djsmith4927@comcast.net > Subject: Re: [NORCAL] Calif Pioneers and NDGW roster > To: norcal@rootsweb.com > Message-ID: > <1341915100.868001274752142820.JavaMail.root@sz0053a.emeryville.ca.mail.comcast.net> > > Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8 > > That's the one, Jan, thanks. > > Donna > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Jan Creelman" <creelman03@comcast.net> > To: norcal@rootsweb.com > Sent: Monday, May 24, 2010 4:01:26 PM GMT -08:00 US/Canada Pacific > Subject: Re: [NORCAL] Calif Pioneers and NDGW roster > > Here is the link to the NDGW Pioneers: > http://www.cagenweb.com/cpl/ndgwmaster.htm > >
The answer wouldn't come from the Native Sons, it would come from the Pioneer Roster committee of the Native Daughters. The Roster Committee only meets once a month and a full update of the Roster on line was done in 2008. Visit http://www.ndgw.org/PRosterIndex/rostermain.html or email NDGWpioneer@att.net. I was a Native Daughter for 7 years and served on the Pioneer Roster Committee for 5. On sfgenealogy.com if you enter "Pioneer" in the search box and choose "NDGW" from the drop-down menu, you'll get to the same Index and on ndgw.org. Hope this helps. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Yvonne Bowers Listmom, Webmom NORCAL, SOCAL http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~yvonne/norcallib.html On May 25, 2010, at 12:00 AM, norcal-request@rootsweb.com wrote: > Message: 3 > Date: Mon, 24 May 2010 15:28:51 -0700 > From: ROLAND ELLIOTT <rolandelliott2@wildblue.net> > Subject: Re: [NORCAL] Calif Pioneers and NDGW roster > To: norcal@rootsweb.com > Message-ID: > <AANLkTimEI_93E3miv62vPkzpA5VYxV2gjzCPZZtBckuq@mail.gmail.com> > Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 > > No and I can't get a answer from the NSGW either > > On Mon, May 24, 2010 at 3:04 PM, <djsmith4927@comcast.net> wrote: > >> >> >> >> >> >> I can't seem to find my way around Calgen anymore--maybe the name has >> changed--I'm looking for the roster of the Calif Pioneers.
