In my records I have a family that lived in San Joaquin County. The 1920 census says they lived in Elkhorn, all other records, 1918 draft registration, 1930 and 1940 census, say Lodi. The address is the same throughout the records. Why is the town called Elkhorn one time and Lodi the rest of the time? Nancy in Louisiana
Dear Sharon, RoseMary and other Listers! I appreciate very much your great efforts trying to help me in regard to the Moore-Pease family! You are a great and amazing group to be part of on the NORCAL list! And thank you to you, Sharon, for helping me identify the California Counties, not easy to know for us foreigners... I have today been thinking about this: Locating Ida Pease/Moore and her death record may be easier if we try to find her children or grandchildren first? She did have two sons: * Harold Clifford Moore, born in Mankato, MN Apr. 21, 1887, died in Los Angeles, CA Apr. 28, 1946. * Reginald Eugene Pease/Moore, born in Mankato, MN Feb. 4 or 11, 1891, death unknown - was married and had two children: ** Marian Irene Pease/Moore, born in Minneapolis, MN Apr. 6, 1913, died as Marian Towler at Hemet, Roiverside Co., CA Jan. 23, 2000 ** William Warren Moore, born in Minneapolis, MN Dec. 14, 1915, died as William Moore at Mt. Shasta, Siskiyou Co., CA Nov. 7, 2009 AHA: William appears to have "landed" in Northern California, and then my question is obviously this: Can an OBITUARY be found for William Moore at Mt. Shasta, CA in 2009? Thanks a million once again for your wonderful assistance in this matter! Maybe now we'll see some success? Very sincerely yours, Lars E. Sometimes things appear incorrect but there was a transcription error and the listing is actually different than appears online. Sometimes all you can do is order a copy of the record, and judge for yourself. I have had more than one problem like that. One person was listed under the wrong last name because the original record takers penmanship could have used some improvement. The person was listed under Beame instead of Dome. I discovered this when I ordered a physical copy of the record. So the husbands initials could be different on the actual record than it appears on the website. I also had another problem where the person (I discovered later) used their middle name because they hated thier first name, so the initials were R S instead of S S. Nicknames are also used in some (past) records, like Lizzy Smith (L S)instead of Elizabeth Smith (E S). They did not always have such stringent rules concerning record keeping accuracy, as there are now. I do not know what death location 30 means. Question Lars, do you know a a website in English where people here can do genealogy for ancestors in Norway? The Ida Pease who died in San Diego Co., CA in 1949, is far too old and she was married to someone else.... However, there is another possibility that I would like to mention: Ida Felton married twice, and divorced twice. She had two sons, one (Harold Clifford) from her 1st marriage to Charles F. I'm afraid I deleted your email completely so I may be way off base, but there is an Ida Mae Pease who died 10/03/1949 San Diego County, who was born 1/25/1860 Wisconsin. No mother's maiden name is given and the father's is not Felton. It is Auten and I am wondering if it was misread?? There is no Ida Pease in the 1920-29 CADI either. And I checked under her maiden name of Felton, as well, for both categories. Cathy Marin Co., CA "There is no snooze button on a cat who wants breakfast" - unknown

Dear Listers, I wonder whether anyone can help me look for another death record, presumably from 1930-1940, since I see no good "matches" after 1940: Ida PEASE born Aug. of 1869 in MN father FELTON mother MILLER When her mother Ellen Miller Felton died in MN in 1930, Ida was referred to as "Ida PEASE of California". The Felton/Miller family originated in NY, and at one or two occasions Ida is referred to as being born in NY, but I am fairly sure she was born in MN! The 1930 census shows one Ida PEASE, aged 58, born NY, as a widowed lodger at a hotel in Los Angeles, Los Angeles Co., CA. I believe she may be the one, and I wonder: Is there a good "match" for this Ida PEASE in the 1930-1940 California Death Index? Thanks a million in advance for your great assistance in this matter! Very sincerely yours, Lars E. Oyane Geilo, NORWAY

Dear Susan S., Susan W., Chris and other Listers! Thank you very very much for sending me the death index information and obituary for Harry Johnston! The obituary was particularly helpful as it lead me in particular to Harry's cousin at Oakland, CA: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mary E. BRU born 20 Feb 1877 Illinois died 22 Feb 1960 Alameda Co mother's maiden name ROWAN ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Harry Johnston's mother's maiden name was also ROWAN, so we see they were cousins thru their mothers! It would, however have been very interesting for me to see the FULL NAMES for both parents, both for Harry Johnston and for Mary Bru. Does anyone have a chance to help me, once at the Alameda Co., CA courthouse and once at the Contra Costa Co., CA courthouse, to do lookups of the actual death records, both for Mary Bru and for Harry Johnston? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Harry JOHNSTON born 19 Jul 1874 Illinois died 17 Dec 1948 Contra Costa Co mother's maiden name ROWAN ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Thanks again for your great assistance in this matter and for making the NORCAL such a great one!
