[Funeral on Sunday (tomorrow) at 11 oclock a.m.] A NICE RESIDENCE - The 1-story basement cottage residence recently completed for Mr. E.W. CORBERT, on the rising ground south of the Court House, is not only a cosy home in external appearance, but is admirably convenient and complete in all its internal arrangements and provision of store rooms, cupboards, closets, clothes drawers, water pipes, laundry room, bath room, and various other appurtenances. NO TRACE - During Fair week the trunk of Mr. Thomas HUCKSTEP, at the residence of Mrs. Rosolvo SANFORD, near Pacheco, was broken open by some prowler who entered the house in the absence of the family and some $300 in money stolen from it, of which no trace has since been found. 1. [NORCAL] Martinez, Contra Costa, California - 16 October 1875
    2. Dee Sardoch
    3. The Contra Costa Gazette Martinez, Contra Costa County, California Saturday, 16 October 1875 *********************************** SERIOUS ACCIDENT - We hear that a Mr. MOORE and wife, who had been sojourning for a time at one of the Walnut Creek hotels, were severely hurt on Wednesday last by an overturn from the bridge, which crosses the Mitchel Creek on the San Ramon road, about half a mile south of Alamo. They were both found insensible, under their buggy in the creek, by some of the children of the neighborhood on their way to school. Mr. Erastus FORD and others of the vicinity were immediately summoned to the relief of the unfortunate travelers, who were lifted from the creek while still stunned from the shock of their fall. By their desire on partially recovering from the shock, they were carefully conveyed back to their hotel, when medical aid was procured, and they are reported to be slowly improving, though still suffering severely from the injuries of the accident. IMPROVING - Barry BALDWIN, who, at the residence of Dr. Corothers, has been confined for several days with a severe and threatening rheumatic affection of the heart, is now reported so much better that he hopes shortly to be out and able to attend to business again. FIRE - The dwelling house of Mr. DEVITT at Somersville took fire on Saturday last about noon and was entirely destroyed, but most of the furniture was saved. There was an insurance of $400 on the property. IN MEMORIAM - In notice of a monument lately erected in the Masonic cemetery of that place [Vallejo] by Mr. E.H. FORRESTER, over the remains of his late wife, who was Miss Mary SANFORD, of this county until her marriage, the Vallejo Chronicle says: It stands 18 feet high and weighs 10 tons. The shaft and base are cut from California granite, highly polished, and present a splendid appearance. Transcribed by Dee Sardoch To see more old newspapers, visit www.newspaperabstracts.com/

    3. According to Ancestry.com my Lowrie ancestor registered to vote (Alameda County. pg. 97) 25 April 1867. The note says Registered under Section 8. What was Section 8 in 1867? This particular Great Register shows reigstations from 1866 to 1879, but nowhere can I find a year - must be after 1879. I was going to ask on the Hastings Library website but you have to be a student, alum or faculty and I am none of the above. Nancy Lowrie Wrght

    3. Linda,   Here is what I've found so far. Here is the Find A Grave link for Dominic Diciolla: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=DIC&GSpartial=1&GSbyrel=all&GSst=6&GScntry=4&GSsr=161&GRid=65375841&   1930 Census shows Dominic and Elizabeth living in Inglewood, LA in a rented home. He states his occupation as "manager - radio". Dominic is about 27, born about 1903 in Italy. Elizabeth is about 25, born in about 1905 in Illinois. Living with them are the following people: Victor Diciolla, son, age 4, born about 1926. Victoria Diciolla, daughter. It looks like she is about 11 months old. Thresa M. Gravino, sister-in-law, age 20, born about 1910 in CA. Roxy Ann Gravino, age nine months, born in CA (probably the daughter of Thresa). Roseanna Pinta, mother-in-law, so Elizabeth's mother, age 62, born about 1868 in Italy. US Naturalization Records show a Petition for Naturalization in Los Angeles for Domenico Diciolla, born 27 Sep 1902 in Italy. His spouse is Elizabeth and lists one child, "Vito" (probably Victor). He says he is a "fruit dealer". He made his Declaration of Intention to become a US citizen in Chicago, IL. His wife is Elizabeth, born in Chicago, IL and he has a son, "Vito", born 23 Nov 1925 in Chicago. As for your friend's father, Victor: It looks like Dominic died and Elizabeth then married a man named Stanley Truifilt. I found them on the 1940 Census in San Antonio Judicial Township, Los Angeles. Victor and Victoria are living with them, as well as a third child named Donald Diciolla, age 8. Lastly, I found a Vic Diciolla on the Social Security Death Index, born 23 Nov 1925 and died 25 Apr 2009. His last residence was Humboldt. There doesn't seem to be much of anything else about these particular people -- lots of others with that same last name, but I wouldn't know how to tie them in.  I'll send all of these documents to you under separate cover. Hope this helps. Removed -- sold to Hyde 11-14-1890" I have researched the history some of the Jobson vault. I don't think I know anything about Hyde, who Hyde is, or why he may have purchased the vault. Anyone out there have some information on that? And yes, some of my ancestors were once in Jobson's vault. :o) Kim Golding Tacoma kg@nventure.com

    3. The best advice I can give is to dream up every misspelling you can think of and start new searches. Sometimes foreign names often turn out to be transcribed in two names...an actual example---A NAME OF FRED TINO was found as Ford Torino! Be creative...and if you are using ancestry, try advanced. Good luck, Judie Cook Granny@liquidgravity.org On May 16, 2013 10:51 PM, "Linda Mock" <lindamock@webtv.net> wrote: > Hi Listers, > I am trying to help a nurse friend find her ancestors by the name of > DICIOLLA, starting in San Francisco Area, 1902 or earlier. 1. [NORCAL] Martinez, Contra Costa, California - 9 October 1875
    2. Dee Sardoch
    3. The Contra Costa Gazette Martinez, Contra Costa County, California Saturday, 9 October 1875 ************************************* A YOUNG MAN named James Lord LANDIES, while out hunting in a skiff near Antioch last Wednesday, drew his gun to him by the muzzle, when the weapon discharged, the load entering LANDIES’ groin, killing him instantly. DWELLING BURNED - The but recently completed dwelling house of Peter G. LOUCKS, at Pacheco, was totally destroyed by fire last Sunday afternoon, together with nearly all the household effects and family clothing. The fire originated in one of the upper rooms from some cause not known. The room had been used as a sort of storage place but had been partially cleared for other use that day or the day before, when some little carpentering had been done there, of which the litter and shavings remained on the floor. It is possible that a match in this litter may have been stepped on and ignited by some one of the several members of the family shortly before in the room, without attracting attention at the moment and it is also possible that one of the little children may have got possession of matches and been amusing himself with scratching them there. Hanging in the room was a flask containing some powder and also, on a shelf, a canister partially emptied. The explosion of this powder was the firs t not ice of danger to the family below; and, on springing into the hall, Mr. LOUCKS found that the upper part of the house was filled with a lurid mass of fire and smoke. He had no more than got his sick wife and the children out in safety before the volumes of smoke became so suffocating below that nothing of consequence could be saved of the household effects. We have not heard an estimate of the loss by this disaster, but it can hardly be less in money calculation than $1500, if it does not considerably exceed that amount, and there was unfortunately no insurance. Where such misfortune falls upon a family it becomes neighborhoods and the communities to help lighten it; and we hope it will be done in this instance. HOODLUM THIEVES - We mentioned the fact last week that Mr. James NORCOTT’s house, near Bull’s Head, was entered in his absence and plundered of a silver mounted powder flask and shot pouch, and his boat stolen. A few days since the flask and pouch were offered for sale by some boys of rough reputation at Benicia, and word was sent over here to Constable GIFT, who went to Benicia and secured the arrest of 3 boys known to belong to a hoodlum gang which is under direction of a disreputable man, who is still at large, together with one of the boys implicated. One of the 3 boys arrested was dispatched at once to the Industrial School under a previous commitment, and the other 2 are held for examination here by Justice FORD today. Mr. NORCOTT’s boat was found abandoned up in Montezuma Slough on the other side of the Bay. HONORED WITH CONFIDENCE - Mr. Thomas F. KERR, formerly of this county and a son of Judge KERR, of San Ramon, was elected a Supervisor of Kern county at the late election. PROBATE COURT - -In the matter of the guardianship of the minor children of William WOOD, deceased. The petition of Benjamin BOORMAN, paying for the appointment of himself as guardian of M.H. WOOD, Robert Goodacre WOOD, Richard Cross WOOD, Lucetta WOOD, Ann Elizabeth WOOD, Frank Goodacre WOOD, minor children of William WOOD, deceased, came on for hearing, and it appearing that the former guardian, Ann WOOD, has intermarried with the petitioner, Benjamin BOORMAN, and such marriage, having terminated her guardianship, the said children have no legal guardian and they are all minors, and the petitioner being the stepfather of said minors and legally competent, and there being no legal objections made, it was ordered that the petitioner be appointed guardian of said children on his giving bonds to each of said minors in the sum of $100. -In the matter of the estate of Peter PONS deceased. The petition of Caroline PONS praying to be appointed administratrix of said estate, came on for hearing pursuant to the previous order of this court and notice, and it appearing that notice had been given as required by law and the deceased died in this county and that he was a resident of this county and that the petitioner is the widow of the deceased and legally competent, it was ordered that she be appointed Administratrix of said estate on her executing and filing bonds in the sum of $1300…appraisers, viz: G.P. LOUCKS, William CREIGHTON and J.F. HARDING. -In the matter of the estate of E.S. SAYLES, deceased.
