We started with finding Thora Tollofsen on the IGI (Familysearch.org) b. 8 May 1865 with parents Thomas Tollefson and Annie Bennsen. Thomas was really Tønnes who was b. 16 Jan 1842. The 1900 US census(Minneapolis) says he was born Jan 1840. Immigrated 1869. Also on the IGI, I find a Tønnes Tollefson b. 16 Jan 1842 to parents Tollev Torgjeson and Anna Jacobsdtr. He is recorded from Bakke, Vest-Agder. So this looks promising. On the 1865 Norway census I find a family on Budahl http://www.rhd.uit.no/folketellinger/ftliste_e.aspx?ft=1865&knr=1045&kenr=003&bnr=0039&lnr=000 who seem to fit. Can anyone help me confirm that I am on the right track so I don't send him on a wild goose chase ordering the wrong films? Any help would be greatly appreciated since I don't know diddly about this area of Norway. Does anyone have the bygdebok? Posted on the Norway List also. Stephanie

Hello Stephanie: Budal/Budahl is located in Gyland Sogn, Bakke Prgj., Vest Agder. I have the Gyland Book, and a new version is being prepared now. I looked in the Gyland Book under Budal, and it has Tønnes Tollisen b 13 Jan 1842, Christened 16 Jan 1842 and Confirmed in 1856. He emigrated to the USA in 1877. That is all it tells about Tønnes/Tomas under Budal. If you have any idea of where Annie Bentsdatter/Berntsdatter (?) was born it might tell under that farm who she married and the birth of Tøri. Tønnes has two sisters [one died young] named Tøri Tollisdatter but born in 1832 - 33. I can give you a rather large Ancestry report on the Tønnes Tollisen from Budal, if you can determine that is the Tønnes you are looking for. Tønnes' father is actually called Tollifar Torjusen from Handeland, Sirdal which is also part of Bakke before 1865 or so;. mother, Anne Jakobsdatter Mydland, both also from Gyland. I might be able to get some information from friends in Norway for you, as they have access to the Church records, and it may tell the birth of Tøri. I will see what I can find for you, but it will take a couple days, probably.
