Translated from 'Nordmændene i Amerika' by Martin Ulvestad. 1907. Meagher County Martin T. Grande from Ytterøen Parish was the first Norwegian here. He came from Wyoming and settled in the vicinity of Lennop* in 1877. He was employed in sheep raising. Helena was his nearest marketplace when he first came here and to there it was 140 miles, so he had a long way to travel when he had to purchase life's necessities or when he had something to sell. There is a Norwegian congregation belonging to The United Church. It was established in 1891 by Pastor J. A. Pedersen. *An error for Lennep. OK
