Hi Roxanne, In checking the 1801 census records for last name starting Well I find the following: Oppland 4 Buskerud 6 Telemark 17 Møre og Romsdal 8 Sør-Trøndelag 4 Nord-Trøndelag 6 For last name starting Vel I find the following in 1801: Buskerud 4 Telemark 5 I would guess he moved into the Vardal area from one of the other places.
