Hello Margit: Thank you for the reply. OK, you asked for information!!!! :-) I have been researching my husband's Norwegian roots intensively for 19 months now. We have made such great strides. We did have to hire a genealogist from Norway to help us get through our brick wall and that was finding his great grandmother Kari's patronymic name. The Grandfather Ove Oveson was smart enough to join the Valdres Sambam and that gave us some tremendous info. But his wife is another "Piece of Work". Her lineage comes from Hadeland, Gran, Oppland Norway, this info is from the Norway genealogist who searched church records. To date we have found that her name was Kari Iversdatter, born 11/30/ 1845 in Hadeland. Her father is Iver Johansen born 2/25/1818 and her Mother is Gubjor Torgersdatter born 3/29/1915, died 1905. Kari had an older sister named Goro who was born in 1843 and died in 1847. The family then emmigrated to USA to Norway Twp, Racine WI. A distant cousin has also just found out and confirmed through Washington, what we have also found in several obits and that is, Iver went to the Civil War in early 1862, was discharged for medical disabilities in December 24, 1862 in Nashville TN, but died in St. Louis MO in December of 1863. He never made it back home to Iowa. He was in the 15th Wisconsin in Company K. Anyway, I want first to trace Iver's family as far back as possible and his wife Gubjior. So beginning with Iver's lineage, this is what I have found so far: 1.Iver Johansen born 2/25/1818 Gran, Hadeland to Johan Erichsen and Goro Isaaksdtr Iver's Father: 2.Johan Erichsen Kjoserie, baptised July 5, 1789 Johan's Parents I believe: 3.Erich Erichsen Enserud married to Christiana Christophersdtr Siblings of Iver (1801 Census Norway) : Christopher born abt.1787, Morton b. abt. 1800. 4. Erich Erichsen's father: Erich Christophersen, Mother: Morte Christensdr. The above I have found on LDS site but cannot confirm and need help here with digital arkivet sources. Also tracing Iver's mother's family: Goro Isaaksdtr with LDS, I find the following: 1. Goro Isaaksen - Christening: 20/04/1783 Gran Parents: 2.Isaak tomesen, Mother- Anne Nielsdr Then I see for Goro's father: Isak Thommesen or Toverudeje, Christening 27, Dec, 1754, Mother: Ann Pedersen. This line has a pedigree with Goro mentioned as one of several children. When I tried to find them in Digitalarkivet I could only come up with a Jacob Isaksen in 1801 census. Anyway what it comes down to is that I am having a very hard time with both sites and making sure I am following the right line. Is the LDS accurate and is the Digitalarkivet online accurate? Thanks so much for your time and help. Eventually I am going to need it to do the maternal side and that would be Iver's wife Gubjor Torgersdatter. Also we have run up against some brick walls and that would be 1. the marriage place for Kari Johnson or Kari Iversdatter and her husband Ove Oveson. Ove writes in the Valdres Sambam says he married in 1863. Kari's father Iver went to war in 1862. US census finds Kari and Ove and 3 children in Chippewa Cty, MN in 1870 census. Also in the 1870 census we find Kari's mother and the rest of her children living in Chippewa Cty in Mandt Twp. As time passes on We keep finding Ove and Carrie in all federal census records mostly in MN, but in the 1880's they are in ND. and about a dozen kids have been born through the years. 2. In the 1895 Census, Roseau Cty, MN, we don't see Kari anymore. Her husband is living in Roseau with all younger children sans Kari, and he states he is a widow, but we find Kari's grave in Grand Forks ND in 1909. Her obit says she is a widow. This is her grave as we knew the daughter's name and her son in law's name. So either they had a falling out and separated or Kari was ill. I have searched Iowa for marriage certificates till I am blue in the face. Ove is found in Roseau Cemetery dod 1923. Whatever happened to Grandma Kari and Grandpa Ove we have no clue and it died with that generation. Another mystery and no one alive to tell the story. Got any ideas !!! Darn. I hate loose ends!! :-) Genealogy is HARD WORK!!! :( Interesting but still very hard when you start out with so little, I am amazed we have come so far but not without much persistence and dedicated people out there on the internet who care enough to help! Thanks,in advance for any info. It will get confusing otherwise. Yes I do help, I like to see all information you know about the people you are searching on before doing any searching on my own. :-)) There are lots of people on the list willing to help if they can. Welcome! Margit
