    3. At last year's Viking Exhibit at the Minnestoa Science Museum in St. Paul Minnesota there were a series of lectures that discussed the various colonies the Vikings established..mainly moving from Iceland to Greenland and then to the NE coast of N. America. I do not remember mention of Rhode Island though as I'm thinking it was more along the Canadian Maritime Provinces. I believe they did not see the benefit of sustaining these colonies so far away and eventually abandoned them. This information is found in the Viking Saga's that can probably be found on a web site. I did not purchase any books so am working off of memory. Hope this helps. I'm sure there are others much more informed on the subject. -----Original Message----- From: Margit <margit@eot.com> To: NOR-OPPLAND-L@rootsweb.com <NOR-OPPLAND-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Wednesday, November 12, 2003 8:31 PM Subject: [Oppland] Re: September 25, 1852 / NY Times / Ole Bull / Norwegians in America >Hi all, > >The part below blew me away, this was written 151 years ago, and they make >reference to Norwegian's being here long before Columbus.
