Hi all, The part below blew me away, this was written 151 years ago, and they make reference to Norwegian's being here long before Columbus. I have always heard that, and Terje Erik Garberg made mention of it when we were in Norway in May. I am just wondering who Biarn is? and Thorfin? I know who Leif is. :-)) Thanks for the education and any more information about this would be appreciated. :-) Margit > > --that Biarn and Leif, eight hundred years ago, visited our shores, and that > Thorfin with his bride and bridesmaids, and sixty picked Norwegians, sailed > into Narragansett Bay, and took possession of what is now a portion of Rhode > ISland by them called Vinland, leaving their traces in monuments on the rocks, > to the puzzle of antiquarians; then, surely, the Norwegians have a right to > come and claim a home on the continent they discovered.
Margit I remember as a boy we visited some people in ( I think ) Superior Wisc. along Lake Superior and at one place They had a replica of a Viking boat that archeologists had recovered from the mud of the lake the actual boat was supposed to have been on display in a museum localy. So our ancesters made it a lot further that the sea coast. This is realy amazeing concidering the size of craft they sailed in. They evidently had a whole lot better survival skills than are available now.
