Hi Debbie, You can go here and check for his birth in Østre Toten, I do not find him. <http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/igi/search_igi.asp?batch_number=C421 747®ion=12&batch_search=true> Make sure you pick Norway for Country and Oppland for Province. Do you have a copy of his obit?? What did his death record show? Have you checked any of the children's birth records to see what they show for his name and birth place? >From Oppland, they could have left from Kristinia/Oslo or Trondheim. I would assume Trondheim if they were living in Trondheim in the 1875 census. The family moved around a lot if you check the 1875 census and look at where the children were all born. Some in Østre Toten, some in Christiania and Stordalen and Trondheim. Looks like you need to find Augustinus' fathers name to get farther back. Yes, this looks like at least a second wife. Here is the Christening of Petra Amalie Augustinusdatter in 1867. It is extracted from Church records, so print it out. <http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/IGI/individual_record.asp?recid=1000 24710830&lds=1®ion=12®ionfriendly=Norway&frompage=99> Here is the christening of Karoline Palma Augusta Augustinusdatter. It is extracted from Church records, so print it out. <http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/IGI/individual_record.asp?recid=1000 74064344&lds=1®ion=12®ionfriendly=Norway&frompage=99> Here is the birth and christening of Audun Brunech Augustinussen Rodstad. It is extracted from Church Records, print it out. <http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/VR/individual_record.asp?recid=28071 798&lds=4®ion=12®ionfriendly=Norway&frompage=99> All the above are siblings of your Peder. Their records may give you help in your search. Klara is not listed, so more then likely she died. <http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/IGI/individual_record.asp?recid=5002 21538829&lds=1®ion=12®ionfriendly=Norway&frompage=99> Is what appears to be the christening of your Augustinus Casper Christiansen Fodstad in 1835. I will give you an alert on this, you need to research the records yourself also, as this was submitted by someone to LDS and they neglected to leave their name for a contact for you. This could be a good possible for the mother of your Augustinus. You will need to check the records. <http://draug.rhd.isv.uit.no/ftsoek/ftsoek.asp?kommando=bosted&ftaar=1865&sp raak=engelsk_britisk&kommnr=0528&kretsnr=0011&bostnr=0081&leilnr=000> Karine Kristiansdatter You must remember that records that old are only as good as the person who gave the information and the person who transcribed the original record of well over 100 years ago. :-)) I do not find him leaving Trondheim. Margit > > > Margit, > > thanks for the information on Fodstads in Ostre Toten. According to the > 1865 norway census Peter (peder)Nandrup Fodstad was born in 1861 in Toten. > If I am reading the census right, his father was Augustinus Fodstad born in > 1835 in Toten. His mother may have been Petra Fodstad*f Jakobsen, born in > 1840 in Stange. It looks like he had 2 sisters, Karoline Petrine Augusta, > born 1863 in Toten, and Klara Albertine born 1865 in Chritiania. > In the 1875 census for the munincipality of Trondheim, Mollenberg street, > Town quarter 21, It shows Augustinus Casper as the father, Anna Sophia as > the wife, Petter Nandrup, Karoline, Petra Amalie born 1867, Jens born 1874, > and maybe a son Christian born 1875. Is Anna a 2nd wife? did Klara die? > In the USA he was known as Peter N Fodstad. In the 1910 Minnesota census > he listed the year 1881 as his year of immigration. He was married to > Othelia Hammer, who also came here in 1881. However, they were listed as > being married 28 yrs in this census, which would have made the married in > 1882, after they came here. All 9 children were born here in Minneapolis. > how do I find which farm they lived at? How do I find their parish in > norway? also, where did people leave from to come to America?
