My great-grandparents were Julius Johannesen, son of Johannes Larsen of Lillehammer, Faberg Parish, Oppland County Norway (born 17 November 1852), and Eline Fredricka Simensdatter Listad of Grav/Grov, Sor-Fron Parish, Oppland County Norway (born 27 March 1858). Both were included as single persons in the 1875 census in Christiania now Oslo. Julius was enumerated as Julius Steen in this census, and on a subsequent manifest on the SS Thingvalla which sailed from Christiania to the US in 1881. Their first child John Sigurd Steen was born in Christiania on 9 December 1877. This would indicate that they lived in Christiania from 1875 until their departure on 22 June 1881, and were probably married in this city in 1877 or perhaps earlier. Where would one write in Oslo or perhaps Sor-Fron Parish to obtain a copy of this marriage record. In the US the family went by the name of Stone, and Julius` occupation was as a woodturner. In time he became a part-time and then eventually full-time preacher with the Church of Christ in Chippewa Falls Wisconsin. It is unclear exactly when he first affiliated with this denomination, but family oral history has it as being in Norway. If so the records may not be with the Lutheran Church? Any help in this matter is appreciated. Earl Reep Oak Harbor WA
Hi Earl, Here is the actual birth record of your Julius online if you do not have it. He was baptised on Christmas Day of the same year. <http://www.arkivnett.ol.no/dbsok/ndetal.asp?PT=Dopte&Post=8595> Margit > My great-grandparents were Julius Johannesen, son of Johannes Larsen of > Lillehammer, Faberg Parish, Oppland County Norway (born 17 November 1852),
