    3. EDWARD E. AND MARY BJORGE EDWARD E. BJORGE, a well known and progressive farmer of Spring Creek Township. was born in Gudbrandsdalen, Norway. He was a son of Engbrit and Maren Bjorge, natives of Norway, who came to America, and some years later died at Maple Bay, Minnesota. The Engbrit Bjorges were parents of five children: Iver, Karen, Cecil, Hans and Edward (all who are deceased). Edward Bjorge came to America at the age of 19 years, and was the only member of his family to settle here the rest all settling in Canada. He was a farmer all his life and was the owner of 160 acres of land in Spring Creek Twp. Horses were used to till the soil, tractors were not used then. He erected a substantial dwelling on his farm. also a barn and other buildings. The appearance ot the farm was improved by a grove of trees which he set out: the farm originally being bare of timber. Mr. Bjorge was regarded throughout the communuty as one of the progressive farmers of that township. For many years he was the assessor there and served on the school board. MARY BJORGE came to America at the age of five years. together with her parents. Ole and Christine Norby. who were natives of Norway They settled in the Gary, Minn. area. Other brothers and sisters were; Lewis. Herman, Martin Johnny Tillie (Mrs. Henry Tommerdahl). Ciara (Mrs. John Renfrew), these are all deceased, and Olga (Mrs. Bernt Strom) is a resident of the Wimmer Home in Ada. On Dec. 28. 1895 Edward Bjorge and Mary Norby were married and settled on a farm 6 1/2 miles northwest of Gary. To this union 15 children were born (all in a log house) and 13 of these children survived: Minnie, Maria, Oscar. Louise. Palmer, Elmer, Ida, Alice, Clarence, Clara. Oliver Ella Ernest. Arthur and Arnold. The children grew and moved away from home. Minnie married Magnus Dahl of Waukon Township and they lived in the Grand Forks, N.D. area. They have two sons, Marvin of Dilworth, Minn. and Donald of East Grand Forks, Minn. After the death of her husband. Minnie has made her home in Ada. Louise married Nelius Rude of Gary (deceased) and they lived the later years in Seattle, Wash. Their children are Ina Mae. David. Gloria. Elaine. Roger. Wayne and Marion. Oscar lived a number of years on a farm near Gary and at present lives m rural Twin Valley. Palmer marned Irene Wigesland of Twin Valley. They have two children, Dennis and Linda, both of Detroit Lakes, Minn. Palmer and Irene have spent their later years in Detroit Lakes also. lda married Gust Tollerud of Fertile, Minn. They have two children, Glenn of Moorhead Minn.. who married Geraldine Brueshoff of the Anthony area. and their children are Gregory, Debbie (Mrs. Terry Mallick), Michael and Natalie; Marlene married Wayne Hetland of Shelly and they live in Hendrum. Their children are Laune, Mardi. Patti. Steven and Paul. Ida and Gust life in Ada. Alice married Clarence Wermager of Twin Valley and they make their home there. Their children are Clarice (Mrs. Duane Foster) of Lockhart and her children are Nancy and Robin (Mrs. Jay McNamar); Orvis. Patricia. Carolyn and Jerry. Clarence made his home in Detroit Lakes and died August 12, 1974. Clara is married to Otto Zug. Their children are Marlus, JoAnn, Harlan, Robert Gunnufson and Penny Zug. The Zugs live in Twin Valley. Oliver married Marcella Sassaroli of Florence, Italy and they live in Ada. Their children are Robert (married Helen Schwartz of Staples) has a daughter, Tonya Anna, and Cindy (married Jim Aasland of Ada). Ella married Ervin Harms and they make their home in Mahnomen, Minn. Their children are Beverly, Delaine, James, Richard, DuWayne, Marsha and Kenneth. Ernest was killed in World War II while serving with the Armed Forces in France. He is buried there. Arthur married llene Boerger of Norman County. Two children were born to this union, Janis and Maradee. Arthur is deceased. Arnold married Lorraine Larson of Gary. They have a son Darrell. They all reside in the Minneapolis, Minn. area. Mary Bjorge died at the old Ada Hospital on May 21, 1933. She was 58 years of age. Edward E. Bjorge lived on a farm near Gary with his son, Oscar, and died at the Ada Hospital May 15, 1950 at the age of 82 years. Norman County History Book 1976
