My great grandfather Ole Larsen Toftehagen lived as a cotter of the Tofte farm from 1794 to 1858. He married Goro Pedersdatter in 1824 and they had 7 children. Ole Olsen Toftehagen was the youngest and my grandfather. I have information on all of his siblings from birth to death except for a brother Peder Olsen. I have his birth and confirmation in Sør Fron Church but then I lose him. I would appreciate any assistance or any ideas on how I can define my research. His information can be found at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ourfamilyhistory2006/p84.htm
I am in possession of the CD with Church records for Fron. Vaccination: On Oct,4 , 1832 following children of Ole Tofthagen were vaccinated on same date: Anne Tofthagen, 2-1/2 yrs Lars Tofthagen, 5 yrs Peder Tofthagen 1-1/2 yr I find Peder Olsen TofteEiet was confirmed on June 15, 1845. Father: Ole, Mother: Goro. There is a comment that the confirmation was held in Froen Hovedkirke (Sør Fron Kirke) in 1845 on the 4th Sunday after Trinitatis, June 15.1845 >From now it is getting difficult. Cannot find him in the list of emigrants in the Church records. I find a marriage on June 20, 1853: Peder Olsen Toftehagen, bachelor, Odeneie (probably the place where he resided) 33 years old. Father: Ole Larsen. Comments: Cannot read Peder Olsens position. To Maid Guro Paulsdatter Toftehagen, 24 years, father: Paul Larsen. Sponsors. Ole Hansen Rudieie, Johannes Holen. This Guro Paulsdatter must be the Goro, born May 11, 1827 to Paul Larsen Toftehagen and Rønoug Larsdtr Toftehagen. You have probably checked this out long time ago. The age for the groom Peder does not match, but it can very well be misprint for 23???. Very impressive Web Site you have. -----Opprinnelig melding----- Fra: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] På vegne av Dean C Hagen Sendt: 27. oktober 2006 03:06 Til: [email protected] Emne: [Opp] Peder Olsen Toftehagen My great grandfather Ole Larsen Toftehagen lived as a cotter of the Tofte farm from 1794 to 1858. Thank you Ola for your information, I appreciate it. You wrote: > I find a marriage on June 20, 1853: > Peder Olsen Toftehagen, bachelor, Odeneie (probably the place where he resided) 33 years old. The age for the groom Peder does not match, but it can very well be misprint for 23???. Circumstantial evidence indicates that this is may be my Peder Olsen Toftehagen. As you state the age of Peder may be in error or maybe a misprint. Another bit of data -- Guro Paulsdatter is a first cousin of Peder Olsen. Her mother Rønoug Larsdtr is a sister of Ole Larsen, Peder's father. Could first cousins marry in Norway? I know they did sometimes in this country before a law was passed that prohibited it. I am now wondering if he emigrated prior to the time that my grandfather Ole Olsen Toftehagen aka Ole O Hagen came in 1869. Mange takk Dean C Hagen
After looking a bit further it is more likely that the groom mentioned below is Peder Olsen, born May 2. 1816 in Sør Fron to father Ole Larsen Oedegaardstuen under Oden and mother Guro Pedersdatter. This could be the couple mentioned under Nord Fron in the 1856 Census http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&sidenr=27&filnamn=f60518&gardpostnr=203&personpostnr=1254&merk=1254#ovre Since cannot find them under S.Fron. So, Your Peder Olsen remains a mystery. I cannot find him in the emigration lists, nor in the Census lists or list of deceased before 1900. By the way, the farm Grufter mentioned in your web site. Could this be Graffer? http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&sidenr=44&filnamn=f60519&gardpostnr=276&merk=276#ovre Rgds Ola Morken -----Opprinnelig melding----- Fra: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] På vegne av Dean C Hagen Sendt: 28. oktober 2006 20:12 Til: [email protected] Emne: Re: [Opp] Peder Olsen Toftehagen Thank you Ola for your information, I appreciate it.
