Surnames: Grihamar, Øye, Hermundstad Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/hcC.2ACE/1326.1.1.1 Message Board Post: According to the Vang, Valdres bygdebok: Guri Olsdatter was born 1798 at Grihamar to parents Ola Torsteinsson Grihamar and Ingeborg Maria Olsdatter Edsvold/Eidsvold. She was the 2nd oldest of 8 children. According to my notes, Guri and Knut had 10 children. Most immigrated between 1854 and 1855. Guri and Knut immigrated in 1855 with 3 of their younger children (so Guri wasn't a "young lady" when she immigrated). Knut was born 1793 to parents Nils Knutsson Høle (Holien) and Sigrid Knutsdatter Øye. Two of his sisters married "Turtnesses" and I think they both ended up in Iowa. (One of the Turtness brothers changed his surname to "Gordon," and lived in or near Worth County, Iowa.) Knut's father was a farmer at Øye before they moved to Hermundstad in 1800, so Knut was most likely born at Øye in Vang. Knut took over Hermundstad after his father, but sold the farm in 1839 to my gg grandmother's sister and her husband. They lived there for about 4 years, until they sold the farm to one of Knut and Guri's sons (Ole Knutsson Hermundstad; he eventually immigrated in 1854). Hope this helps!
