I believe the correct spelling of your grandmother's name is MONSSEN, not MONSEN. Also, are you certain she immigrated through New York? When I first started doing a family tree I could not find her any where under the name of Monsen so in questioning my Mother she told me to look under the name of Gunderson because my grandmother had been adopted. I did find an Anna Gunderson in my searching who had the same info that I had on my grandmother. Now I have been given paper work from a cousin showing that her last name when she came to the US was listed as Munsen. I found the ship that this Anna Munsen came to America on it was called the Taormina, which left from Hamburg, Germany, she is listed on her Ellis Island records as Prussian. I am new to this searching and it seems that I am not doing a very good job since I found all this information on a person who I thought was my grandmother and then to find out she isn't.
