I am trying to find out the names of her parents. Her Mother passed away but I know that she had two sisters that I am sure of. I do not know their names. She immigrated to the United States on March 28, 1892, on a ship named Taormina, she sailed to America from Hamburg, Germany. She arrived at Ellis Island, New York, USA and then I believe she lived in Brooklyn, New York for a time. I have searched through ancestry.com, Roots and family search and I have not found much information at all. If there is any one who knows any information on her I would love to hear from you. She met and married my grandfather in 1898 and they had 12 children. His name was Hans Peter Christian Nevad and he was from Denmark. Olaf, his wife Oleane Olsdtr. Vangen, born 1885.07.31, and their two children Othelie Olafsdtr., born 1903.08.04, and Helga Olafsdtr., born 1905.08.27. They are living at Nordberg, matr. nr. 181. They apparently are living in the same house as Ole A. Roset and his wife Syverine Olson, and two children Marcus and Torvald. Olaf Hansen Vangen was born in Fron in 1876. His occupation is listed as a jernarbeider. I would like assistance in finding a descendant of Othelie or Helga so that I might contact them. I believe the farm was also split into different sections. Some records include additional descriptions such as nordre, odegaard, etc. Another tricky thing to research this farm is the use of the special character "ø" in Bjørnerud. It does make a difference while doing searches on the Norwegian websites. When I first started my research, my grandmother told me that her father changed his name from Ole Bonrude to Ole Rude when he came to the US. Luckily, he wasn't the only family member to make the migration. I had enough info about him and his 2 sisters to confirm their link to this farm and eventually trace it back many generations. I had been relying on immigrant arrival information. Based on your post, I checked emigrant departure information for when her brother Andreas Johnsen Svingen left for Canada in 1926. The emigrant listed immediatly above Andreas is Marie Johnsen (b: 28Nov1901) from Sel. With her is Anton Johnsen (b:16Jan1899) her husband. All three were heading to Canada.
