Since I am new to this detective work I am at a loss. I did find an Anna Munsen on the passenger list of a ship called Taormina but that lists her parents and a number of siblings. Her age is correct but from I have heard she arrived in the US either alone or with one sister. I really do not know what else to do, the few other places I have checked have been written in Norweigen which I cannot read or understand. Thanks for your responding to my posting. I had the date of birth from my family tree, the name Monsen is on her and my grandfather's marriage license. When I first started doing a family tree I could not find her any where under the name of Monsen so in questioning my Mother she told me to look under the name of Gunderson because my grandmother had been adopted. I did find an Anna Gunderson in my searching who had the same info that I had on my grandmother. Now I have been given paper work from a cousin showing that her last name when she came to the US was listed as Munsen. I found the ship that this Anna Munsen came to America on it was called the Taormina, which left from Hamburg, Germany, she is listed on her Ellis Island records as Prussian. I am new to this searching and it seems that I am not doing a very good job since I found all this information on a person who I thought was my grandmother and then to find out she isn't. In looking at the passenger list of! the Taormina she is listed as coming to America with her whole family and according to what I have been told she came either by herself or with a sister, I do know that she was only 16 when she came to the US. I believe the correct spelling of your grandmother's name is MONSSEN, not MONSEN. Also, are you certain she immigrated through New York? All of my Norwegian ancestors immigrated through Baltimore. ---- Original message ---- >Date: Mon, 27 Dec 2010 12:11:23 -0000 >From: nor-oppland-bounces@rootsweb.com (on behalf of "gc-gateway@rootsweb.com" <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com>) >Subject: Re: [Opp] Looking for relatives of my grandmother >To: <NOR-OPPLAND-L@rootsweb.com> > >This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > >Author: Ladyshane321 >Surnames: >Classification: queries > >Message Board URL: > >http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.scan-balt.norway.counties.oppland/3318.3.1.1.4/mb.ashx > >Message Board Post: > >I had no idea that overbo was the name of a farm. I have done a lot of research on ancestors from Norway. Someone has stated that they have some German records. Would that person be kind enough to check these names for me? Gottlieb Strese, Posen, Germany Anna Louise Engel, probably from Posen, Germany. Wilhelm von Schrader, Berlin. These would be early 1800's. The spelling of the names might be slightly different. Joachim Prigge early 1800's possibly Hanover Magadalene Luhmann possibly Hanover Valentine Nuszloch mid 1800's. Landau, Germany Anna Heck mid 1800's Landau Do you have any records from Switzerland? Many thanks, Joan Dahl
