Klokkerbok shows her to be 22, from Valle. Ministerialbok shows her to be 23 and from Walle. Is one book to be taken over the other? Have found Valle and Walle farms both in Ostre Toten so could be from either. Maren & Ole lived at Myhre-eie, Biri, Oppland where first 3 children were born, Sigrid, Peder, and Marthe. 1832 parish records show family leaving Biri going to Faaberg. They lived at Lexhus-eie and 3 more children were born, Hans,Oline and Halvor who is my direct line. Have found some information on other siblings but the father, Ole have found nothing more. Maren next shows up on Halvor's confirmation at Fluberg Church in Oct. 1850 living at Gjeflein Sondre Land, father just states Ole. Have not been able to find them leaving a parish or entering. Have not been able to find death records for Ole or Maren. 1865 census show a Maren Halvorsdtr born in Land living at Carlsborg in Sondre Land aged in her 60's. Possibly her??? Checked birth records for Toten and Land I found a Maren Halvorsdtr born Feb 22, 1801 in Land but how do I know if correct person and year would make her 24 at time of marriage. Again looked for her leaving Land going to Toten, no luck. Found this Maren's confirmation record Sept. 1814 in Land living at Ovre Skiaker. Parents match birth record. The strange part is... Maren & Ole's son, Halvor (my gr.gr grandfather lived at Skiaker. His marriage record of 1862 shows him living there and the 1865 census show his family living at Jonstuen which was a cottagers farm on Ovre Skiaker. Family left from here to America in 1867. So did Maren start out at Ovre Skiaker, move to Toten, get married there, moved to Biri, Faaberg, and finally S. Land? Or was this a different Maren and just a big coincidence that her son lived at Skiaker??? Thank you for any help, information or direction that any one has for me before I just have to give up on knowing for certain! To my knowledge there isn't a Gjerde farm in Land...Here's a list of the farms in Land from the landingslag website: http://www.landingslag.org/research/farms.htm and there is a Gjeile farm - close but no cigar? The only Gjerde (Gjære) farm I know of is in Sogn og Fjordane ... the husmann name would have been Gjerdeiet so that may be where the "t" comes from ... And you were obviously already working at it as best you could. Not so hard to just point out a few things that were also available and 'whisper' in your ear. Is "Dalshaug" family the same as we've been working on above? 1865 census only shows a couple of likely locations at quick glance. It took me years to find one my own "Ole Olsens" (so far 14 as direct line ancestors HA). Knew nothing of birth year, nothing of WHERE. That one was HARD! Finally solved when a very old cousin of Mom's turned to me and said "Oh you mean that Ole? Well he was also known as Ole ------ (farm name I'm not mentioning here)." It was solved! I recognized the farm name from years of research on other ancestors from the same area. I wanted to jump up and run to the nearest computer to work on it - but sat and politely finished our conversations. You've been very rewarding to assist. You need more advice - ask. 18th January: My friend here at Otta is Aud Sanbu. She keeps national norwegian level as genealogist and is in addition on top of that is a specialist of Heidal/Vaagaa. She expresses that the minister several times forgot to make the proper records of baptism in the Church Book. On a 'Lien' farm too - Lien nordre (north) specifically. Poul - Paul; 6 of one - 1/2 dozen of the other. Spelling was not important and rarely consistent. Some of my family too took various different American surnames too - brothers living in the American midwest and completely different names. Farm names and patronymics adapted to fit their new surroundings. That is exciting for you. I'm so pleased. Something must have clicked - I think you are started!! Go back to that exact 1875 census page (your link works beautifully, thanks). It will have reverted to Norwegian headings and instructions but now click on "Same onråde" in the blue bar near the top of the page. That will give you a quick list of the other databases that Digitalarkivet currently has available for Nord-Fron. Use a translation website to work out what each is and see if any might be more help to you.
