I wanted to share some information I have on my ancestors who lived mainly in Gran, Oppland. I would appreciate anyone with ties to this family contacting me. This information has not been verified and additional research is needed. Thank you! Rob Generation 1 Tosten Thompson was born on May 27, 1853 in Hadeland, Norway. He was the son of Ole Thomassen Melbostadeiet and Anne Larsdatter Drøvdalseiet who arrived in Quebec, Canada on June 29, 1865 on the ship Balder, settling in Wisconsin. Tosten was married to Dora Houkum on April 4, 1880 in Nielsville, Wisconsin. They lived in La Crosse, Wisconsin until 1893, then moved to North Dakota for 3.5 years and the to Elbow Lake, Minnesota in 1893. Dora was born on May 17, 1854 in Kvisted, Telemark to Svenning Halvorsen Hougum and Tone Johannesdatte Skare. Dora died on February 1, 1933 in Elbow Lake Minnesota and she is buried at the Union Cemetery. Tosten died on November 20, 1921 in Elbow Lake, Minnesota. Generation 2 Ole Thomassen Melbostadeiet was born on August 10, 1824 in Hadeland, Norway. He was the son of Tomas Andersen Gamme Eiet and Kari Torstendatter Gamme Eiet. Ole married Anne Larsdatter Drøvdalseiet on December 25, 1853. Anne (also known as Anna) was born on May 13, 1825 in Hadeland, Norway. She was the daughter of Lars Iversen Helmeyeie and Inger Olsdatter Drøvdalseyet. Anna died on July 10, 1917 near Hastings, North Dakota and is buried at Spring Creek Cemetery in Spring Creek Township of Barnes County, North Dakota. Ole died on January 19, 1899 near Hastings, North Dakota and is buried at Vickstrom Cemetery in Spring Creek Township. Generation 3 Tomas Andersen Gamme Eiet was born about 1770 in Søndre, Land. Lars married Inger Olsdatter Drøvdalseyet on April 19, 1825 in Gran. Inger died after 1838 but before 1844. Lars married Kari Torstensdatter in 1844. Generation 4 Anders Thomsen married Tore Iversdatter Torsten Larsen Lynn was Bzptized on March 5, 1758. He married Rangdi Olsdatter Lynn on November 10, 1785. Iver Pedersen was Baptized on September 7, 1766 in Helmeid. He married Anne Larsdatter on December 28, 1790. Anne was Baptized on April 16, 1761 and probably buried on July 12, 1810(?). Iver then married Anne Hansdatter in 1811.

Hei , My grandmother wrote in a 1940 letter that her grandfather was Johannes Johansen Løsness, born Skøien. Later she refers to him as Johan Skøien. What does Skøien mean? Hi Earl, Sometimes, less is better when searching. I just typed in the years you had for some of the children when searching for each one and went through every name until I found them. :-) Do you have Johannes and Christine's marriage date and place? They do have some marriages online for some area's of Oppland, but not what you need yet located on that database. Hopefully they will update more in the future. Hi Robert, When I put names into my database, I do it like this: Ole (the only name on the first name line, the rest on the surname line) Svendsen (son of Svend) Midaunet (born on Midaunet) Ramlo (moved to Ramlo) Hilmo (died on Hilmo) The marks in parenthesis I do not put in there, but it tells me what I put in them where he was located at different times in his life. Then for the next generation or someone 100 years from now who is looking for information in Norway, they would know to check the Midaunet, Ramlo and Hilmo gårds or farms. It is more then an address then a name. Most took one form of the farm/gård name when they emigrated from Norway, and when they did it makes it easier for us to research them in Norway.
