    3. Hi Margit, I am looking primarily in Valdres and am on the Valdres list, too. The families I am looking for are in Vang in Valdres. They include the following: Søndrol, Ellingbø, Eltun, Stele, Søre Bø, Givre, Brekke, Lunde, Tune, Bagetun, Kattevøl, and many, many more in the valley. 3. Cliff, I came across the history book Gardar og Slekter i Fron, by the same author. I got in touch with my local library and through the library lending program was able to obtain the book for review through a college in Decorah, Iowa. Unfortunately, I understand no Norwegian either old or new and the book was worthless to me. Fortunately, I was able to locate a contact who had a contact in Norway and who did a rough translation from which I was able to extend my research through the Family History Library Catalog (IGI) and the various census records for Norway in the digitalarkivet -- 1801, 1865, 1875 and 1900. I also have learned that this mailing list has many outstanding volunteers who will help you with your research. 3. I'm new to this list but have been researching my Norwegian ancestors for the last couple of years. But now I have a problem and am need of some help. Does anyone on the list have access to "Gardar og Slekter i Ringebu", by Einar Hovdhaugen? I have a little trouble trying to determine which Siri/Sigri Olsdr. married Soldat Ole Torgersøn on 8 Mar 1750 in Ringebøe. Her residence was is shown as Linækren but there are two possibilities. 1) Siri Olsdr. b. 5 Jan 1722 to Ole Jonsen Bygstad and Marte Olsdr. or 2) Siri Olsdr. b. 18 Aug 1726 to Ole Engebretsøn and Guri Amundsd. There is no death/burial record to indicate that either Siri may have died before 1750 but I have found other marriage records for a Siri Olsdr., one on 29 Oct 1740 to Soldat Lars Hansen and another on 26 Feb 1746 to Hans Jonsen. Any help will be greatly appreciated before I give up and give ggggg grandma Siri a "brick wall" status. Cliff Anderson

    3. I am searching for the full birthdate of Sverre Olsen, born in Ringebu sometime in 1900. Siblings were Martha, Olga, Ove (1906) , Andrew, Karl (1911), Jens, Hans and Mary. Sverre's brother used the name Ove Olsen Lobet, but I am not sure if Lobet was the farm of his parents? Thanks, Garth Ulrich

    3. Hi Roxanne, In checking the 1801 census records for last name starting Well I find the following: Oppland 4 Buskerud 6 Telemark 17 Møre og Romsdal 8 Sør-Trøndelag 4 Nord-Trøndelag 6 For last name starting Vel I find the following in 1801: Buskerud 4 Telemark 5 I would guess he moved into the Vardal area from one of the other places. I have ordered a number of them from Vesterheim. They cost $12.00 earch. When you get to this site you will see that there are 728 maps. You can scroll down until you get to the area you think you are looking for. When you e-mail Vesterheim you can tell them the number and name of the map you think you are looking for. If you know the name of the farm that will help Vesterheim know for sure which map you need. If you don't know the name of the farm you can give a town or a church area and that might help them also. The maps are very nice to have and I have located almost all of my farms on them. I have the maps for Leikanger, Voss, Ulvik, Stjordal, Aurdal, Kongsvinger, Smola, Hoyanger, Tinnsja, and Balestrand. You have to be careful when ordering or you may get some that you do not want. That is how I ended up with the Tinnsja and Hoyanger maps. I don't mind having them, but what I had really wanted where the ones that would have been located right next to them. When ordering maps remember that a number of the farm names are listed in a variety of areas. That is how I ended up with Hoyanger when what I wanted were Leikanger and Balestrand. If you click on the name (navn) in the list it will give you a site you can play with and see a general area of what the map will show. This will also help you pick the correct map. The actual farms are not shown on this site but the lakes, rivers, terrain etc. are shown. If you have any questions just e-mail me and I will see if I can help you. Jean in Minnesota

    3. Hi Christine, I have visited Vesterheim and recommend it to anyone who is even close to Decorah, Iowa. However, I do not see any data or price list on your 1:50,000 maps, unless I missed a page? I have gotten the maps with farms on with the Bygdebok's I have bought from the different areas of Sor Trondelag Norway. Please give a price for each one of the maps and the research needed to find the maps for all the listers.
