Or, they may have a file name that would make it look legitimate. Spam or an infected e-mail might indicate a message came from RootsWeb.com, or from a mailing list at RootsWeb.com, but it DIDN¹T. An infected computer is sending these forged messages to you privately. RootsWeb.com cannot prevent these forgeries, nor the bounces for failed deliveries. Upon our investigation we have found that the ISPs of these subscribers were using Osirusoft's blacklist services to assist in spam prevention. Unfortunately Osirusoft has shut up shop and no mail can be received at your ISP. The consequence is that if your ISP is using this service they need to immediately cease using that service so you can receive mail. We would recommend that affected subscribers contact their ISP and bring this matter to their attention. 27.08.2003 Thursday August 28 the servers running the Digital Archives will be on the move. As a result of this we will have to shut down the services at 9 Norwegian time. The operation will take approximately one hour. If there are problems getting connected after the servers have been relocated, try both http://www.digitalarkivet.no and http://digitalarkivet.uib.no. I recently came across an entry in the local history book of Kyle, Saskatchewan for Peter Dahl born 23 Sep 1892 in Ostre Toten. This person isn't a part of my family but I thought that someone else might be interrested. Garth
Thanks! As I really look at some of these records, I will probably have more questions about other things. In the meantime, it is time to get out the family records book and add to it! Vickie
Here is the site for the Gudbrandsdal Lag: <http://www.fellesraad.com/gudbrandsdalnational.htm> They are a wonderful group of people. When you join, they will help you with your genealogy. When I get more organized, I will ask them for more help. :-) Margit
I will be out of the office starting 08/11/2003 and will not return until 09/02/2003. I will receive your message after I return and will endeavor to respond to it then.
Hello Be, There is a "Enserud Eyet" after the husband's name Erich, in the "dopte i gran 1787-1804 Rolle 1802" . NOTHING IS LISTED AFTER CHRISTIANA'S NAME.! I received an email a while back in re the 1801 digitalarkivet census on this family that said "the family is listed on the farm Dyna Vestre at Gran". Guess I got overwhelmed with all of this and just said to heck with it and let it go. Now I really do want to finish this up and hopefully be done to make a journal by christmas for the kids, so that's why I have posted again asking for help! Was Erich from one farm and moved to another? I don't know ! That is why I asked for help Be. You are the expert genealogist for Valdres, Not me! I am still struggling with this, but in a few years if I ever get this thing mastered, I will be "Not to bad" and may eventually some day be able to help someone else!! Thanks for the reply. Are you still overwhelmed with the Valdres stuff or is it getting a little easier. Anyway, Take care and thanks for the reply. Carol
If you look under baptisms I believe they are on Dynna Eyet in Gran, Oppland. Hei Joy, I find the following for Jevanker: <http://www.dis-norge.no/genress/index.php?todo=visKategori&kid=101323> And the following for Aurdal: <http://www.dis-norge.no/genress/index.php?todo=visKategori&kid=101373> Sorry I can't be of more help. Yes there is a way of finding all the children to parents. If you wish me to help with that, I will gladly. Margit > > Margit. Hei all, I met Gerald while at the Tri-Stevne for the Nor-Hedmark/Gudbrandsdal/Trondelag areas of Norway. He wrote a very good article about it. Please read it and consider joining your lag for your area, what he says pertains to all areas of Norway. Margit Visit http://www.fellesraad.com/ Norwegian-American Bygdelagenes Fellesraad Message Board Post: What is a Stevne and why you should attend? I just returned from the Tronderlag Stevne at Sioux Falls, SD. It was the first one I have attended. I met several people attending their first or second Stevne. Many people have never heard of them or may wonder what happens at a Stevne. The Tronderlag website http://www.tronderlag.org/ gives a good summary of this year¹s Stevne and the Tronderlag group. A Stevne is a meeting for people interested in the people who have roots in the Tronderlag area so if you are reading the Tronderlag news list searching for information about ancestors from the Tronderlag area, then you are eligible to attend and should consider doing so. If you are searching for ancestors and relatives, it is a great resource. There were hundreds of books, microfilms of records, maps, etc to help you locate and track your ancestors. They are in Norwegian but they had a lecture on how to read the records, do research, and there were several very skilled people in doing research available to help you. Most of us would have to visit several libraries and hire a professional genealogist to find comparable resources. There were people there from Norway and several interesting talks about history, such as the Viking settlement in Newfoundland, the Scottish ³invasion² of Norway, and insights into Rolvaag¹s classic writings about the immigrant experience in the Midwest. There was dancing of folk songs and very delicious Norwegian-American cuisine. There were trips to some area churches built by Norwegian immigrants over a hundred years ago, trips to locals tourist sites such as the Falls in Sioux Falls! which had a great laser light show about history of Sioux Falls city. Augustan college also had nice museums and exhibits The meeting also provided opportunity to personally meet some of the great people who post regularly on this list. It was very enjoyable experience and I encourage anyone who has not attended a Tronderlag Stevne to try go next year. I also wish to Thank Everyone who worked hard to provide such a great Stevne. gerald

Thank you! What other source other than familysearch.org were you using? Sorry I have so many questions that seem so elementary and, perhaps, annoying. It's a bit of a jungle out there, and I have no guides. You are so very kind to share your time with me. Please let me know if I can help in some way with something :) Vickie
Hi Vickie, Go here: <http://www.dis-norge.no/genress/index.php?todo=visKategori&kid=100180> click on Kirkebøker you will get this page: <http://www.dis-norge.no/genress/index.php?todo=visKategori&kid=101343> click on Kirkebok (dåp) for Gran prestegjeld, 1804-1815 you will get this page: <http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&filnamn=Dp053 41804&spraak=&eigar=GDS%2DHadeland> On the top of the page it says: Finn postar der click on the little arrow that points down and click on Rolle the next little box to the right, click on the little arrow that points down and choose alle and let go. Then click on the little box that says Søk You will get a page that gives you four choices. They are: 1608 Barn (child born) 7954 Fadder (Sponsors of Baptism) 1608 Far (Father) 1608 Mor (Mother) Highlight 1608 Barn with your cursor and hit Finn postane on the bottom. You will get a new page, on that page you have the box that says Finn postar der, click on the little arrow pointing down again and this time choose: Fornavn then in the next box hit the little arrow and choose Børjar På In the next box, type just K and then hit Søk. You will get a new page. We are looking for Kiersti/Kierstie/Kirsti/Kirstie Jensd So, we will highlight from 2 Kiersti down to 1 Kirstie and hit Finn Postane on the bottom. You will get a new page of all children with the names above who were born in the time period given at the top of the page. There are 33 of them. Go thru them individually and look for a far/father with the first name of Jens. The one below is the only one that fits between 1810 and 1814, (I checked them all) so I would feel that she is the correct one and her parents are listed. Also if you go back to Karen's record I sent you earlier and check the farm names of the sponsors, you will see similiarities. Make sure you print out these instructions, they can pretty much be used in any database with minor changes) Rolle Fornavn Kjønn Fødselsdato Fødselsår <http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&filnamn=Dp053 41804&variabel=0&postnr=7986&fulle=true&spraak=n> 7986 Barn Kirsti K 26/01 1812 Digitalarkivet: Døpte i Gran 1804 - 1815. You need to find obituaries on all the people and see what it they say about any relatives in Norway. Sometimes a brother or sister stayed in Norway. > Also, > what are the tricks for going back to her parents, grandparents, etc.?
Thanks... I guess I need to look closer at AOL to see how to do that. Does a simple cut and paste work? I am computer illiterate in some basic kinds of things. Vickie
Margit, This seems to be the same family, but I am having trouble making sense out of the names after Kjersti and Amund. How do they relate? I wish I had done this sooner! Vickie
