    2. Hi Margit, I think that all the information you sent me is my G'pa Ole's family. The age difference is a shock, it would lead one to believe that Knudt's marriage to Ragnild was probably his second marriage. I wonder why Ragnild would marry someone so much older than her. Ole married at age 36 in 1894 to my grandmother, Emma when she was just 18 years. Perhaps it was common in Norway for men to marry in their 30's. It would be interesting to find out what happened to Tolline and Johannes. It states that the name of the domicle is Stormyren, would that be the name of the farm? Thanks very much, Barb

    1. Re: [Oppland] Listers and if you wish help
    2. Hello Oppland Listers, I don't know if any one can help me with my ancestor, but I will give all the information I have. My ggg grandfather Syver Pedersen purchased the Wangen Gard ( later known as Nordre Vangen) from Ole Eriksen Wangen about 1761. This gard is located about 5 km south of Otta on Highway E6. I am looking for any information on his parents. Syver married Kari Syversdatter about 1755, they had two sons- Peder Syversen or Syvertsen born 1755 and Ole Syversen or Syvertsen born 1765 on the Vangen Gard ( I don't know if there were any daughters). When Syver Pedersen Wangen became too old to farm, he split the farm into Wangen Nordre and Wangen Sondre and gave each son a farm. Peder Syversen Wangen married Ingebor Engebretsdtr and lived on Wangen Sondre Ole Syversen Wangen married Embjør Jacobsdatter and lived on Wangen Nordre. Any help would be appreciated, Thank You, WI Ron

    3. Hi Linda, My grandfather Peder came to the U.S. in 1885 when he was 16 years old. His brother, Martin, came a couple of years later and the rest of the family came in 1893. The family story for Karl is that he fell into a bucket of very hot water and suffered burns. They supposedly scraped raw potatoes to put on the burns as a treatment. He died before 1885 when my grandfather came to the U.S. John ----- Original Message ----- From: "Linda Greethurst" <greethurst451@mchsi.com> To: <NOR-OPPLAND-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, September 21, 2003 11:00 AM Subject: Re: [Oppland] Karl Persen > John, > In the 1875 census for Skjåk: > Name of domicile: Hullet (plads) > Number of persons in this domicile: 6. > > > > > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- > ---- > Name Family status Marital status Occupation Birth year Birth place > Ethnicity > Peder Pedersen hf g Skræder og Husmd. 1837 Skjåk > Kari Mortensdatter Kone g 1837 Skjåk > Peder Pedersen s forsørg. af Forældrene 1867 Skjåk > Morten Pedersen s forsørg. af Forældrene 1869 Skjåk > Carl Pedersen s forsørg. af Forældrene 1871 Skjåk > Marit Pedersdatter d forsørg. af Forældrene 1874 Skjåk > > I do have a copy of the Skjåk death records through 1879 and I did not find > him listed. I would guess that in this case you will more then likely have to order the microfilm Church records and go through the deaths. 3. Coon Valley near La Crosse, Wisconsin was known as the Gudbrandsdalen in the USA. That's why many of the immigrants from that area in Norway settled there.

    2. Hi Margit, Thanks so much for the Sel resources. I will do many hours of happy exploring. My daughter and I plan to drive to Coon Valley, WI and LaCrosse WI where Ole was located in the 1880s.The people at Coon Valley state that many of the emigrants from Sodorp and Biri came to Coon Valley WI. It is a beautiful drive along the Mississppi River from the Twin Cities to LaCrosse. Barb

    1. [Oppland] Listers and if you wish help
    2. Margit
    3. Hi all, There are over 100 listers on this Oppland Mail List. Please, if you wish help with your families, let us know. There are many who are willing to help if they can from many areas of Oppland. :-)) To me, it is called the "Circle of Life", as we were all NEWBIES at one time on some list somewhere, and someone, somewhere took the time to help us with our families. Many that I have helped have asked how they can repay me, I tell them, If somewhere, sometime, you can help someone who is in need, whether Genealogy or otherwise, if you help them, that is payment enough. In other words, then the "Circle of Life" completes and "What goes around, comes around". It just makes for a better life for everyone. Margit

    1. [Oppland] My roots in Vardal and Toten
    2. Gregory M Holter
    3. I am researching my roots (on my mother's father's side) in Vardal and Toten. My gg-grandparents came to the US in 1853 and settled in Wisconsin. Ole Olson, Torke-Hund, born November 03, 1826 in Vardal, Oppland, Norway; died 1891. He was the son of Ole Olsen, Torke and Mari Nilsdatter. He married Karen Ellingsdatter April 19, 1853 in Vardal, Oppland, Norway. Ole Olsen Hund is the name given on his emigration record. Karen Ellingsdatter, born October 12, 1829 in Berg, Vardal, Oppland, Norway; died 1911. She was the daughter of Elling Christenson, Lia and Gulline Jensdatter. My ggg-grandparents: Ole Olsen, Torke, was born 1798 in Vardal, Oppland, Norway. He was the son of Ole Amundsen, Torke and Johanne Jensdatter, Nærbye. I can trace his ancestry back somewhat further, using the information about Torke from the bygdebok and other resources. He married Mari Nilsdatter April 08, 1825 in Vardal, Oppland, Norway. Mari Nilsdatter was born Abt. 1801 in Norway. I know nothing about her parents or ancestors. Elling Christenson, Lia, was born Abt. 1800 in Lia Gard, Nordrehoug Sokn, Buscherud (Buskerud) Amt, Norway; died Aft. 1880. He was the son of Christen Olsen and Anne Ellingsdatter. He apparently moved to Toten in 1823. He married Gulline Jensdatter December 07, 1827 in Domkirken, Oslo, Akershus, Norway. His ancestry is not in Oppland. He later emigrated to the US and is shown living with his daughter Karen and his son-in-law Ole in Wisconsin in 1880. Gulline Jensdatter was born 1805 in Østre Toten, Oppland, Norway. She was the daughter of Jens Johannesen and Dorthe Gudmundsdatter, Torsrud. I have been able to trace her ancestors back for several more generations in Toten. I can post further details on list if there is sufficient interest. I would be interested in exchanging information with anyone that might have common ancestry. I can also advise people who may be searching in the same areas. My wife also have roots in Toten and I will post that information at another time. Greg Holter
