Hello, I'm a newcomer to this list. I'm looking for information on my grandmother's family. Her name was Anna Molstad Newborg, and until just two weeks ago, we all thought she was from Honefoss, so I've been on the Buskerud list. I was just able to go thru a suitcase my cousin had in her basement and found a treasure trove of information about her. She was really born in Gran, Hadeland, Norway. Among the items I found were her vaccination record from 1866 with her parents names, which we also had wrong. Their names were John Johannesen and Ingeborg Olsdatter. My grandmother was born in 1861 and she had two brothers, Ole and Christian, and three sisters, Julie, Karen and Johanna. Thanks to Margit I was able to find their baptism records on line so I could get dates and godparents. Thru obituaries I found that Johanna came to Traill County, Dakota in 1877, and married an Anders Gunstad in Hillsboro, North Dakota in 1881. The rest of the family seems to have followed! , my grandmother coming in 1882. Johanna had 9 children and lived most of her life in St. Hilaire, Minn. Karen married someone named Enger and lived in Lanesboro, Minn., at least in 1943, and Julia, who married an A. Hagen and lived in "Valhalla" Saskatchewan. I can't find a Valhalla in Saskatchewan currently, if anyone has heard of it, I'd appreciate any information. My grandmother met her future husband in North Dakota, I think in Traill County, although his family lived in Buffalo, North Dakota for a while before moving west to Washington State. Her husband's name was Andrew (Andreas) Sypriansen Newborg, from Rødenes, Ostfold, Norway and they married in Seattle in 1889, and eventually moved to Yakima Washington. They had 7 seven children, including my father, Harold Newborg. Although I've been looking for information about her for months, I only found this information in the last few weeks. I now have so much I haven't had time to put it in my computer! If anyone has any information about this family, I'd love to hear about it. I think I must have a ton of cousins in Minnesota and North Dakota I never knew existed before this Sept. Gwen Newborg, Portland, Or Webshots photos: http://community.webshots.com/user/gnewborg101

Wow Margit! I didn't know you were from that area. part of my family comes from up there south of Ada in Winchester Township. Sometime I will ask you to do a deep search for the death of a great great uncle. I need to get the information together first. He died (or was killed) while visiting his mother and step family there about 1880. The family hated the mother and were bully enough to try to "cover it up" it would have occured near Clay co. We have searched in Norman Co at the court house with no luck. Hi Barb, Here is the emigration databases from Norway: <http://129.177.171.80/cgi-win/wc/webcens.exe?slag=meny&kategori=5&emne=1&sp raak=e> I checked the 1875 and 1900 and did not find Tolline/Toline. The actual Church records for the parish she died in would show her death. Margit > > Hi Margit, Thanks very much for all information on my Ole Knudsen. Thanks Margit for letting us know the Minnesota Historical Society/Minnesota History Center has added 1907 to the Death Cerfticiate Index. I took a look, and the many I viewed, had estimated birthdates that were "way off". (ie: lists my gg grandfather born about 1903, died in 1907. In fact, he was born in 1839.) Anyone else notice a large number of birth year discrepancies? Vickie, Yes, I think if they do not know, they a lot of times put 1.1.1900 I have noticed also for a date of birth, or nothing at all. Hi Margit, Thanks very much for all information on my Ole Knudsen. How does one search the church records of Sotorp? Is there a web site for records of those leaving Norway? Very excited about finding the name of the farm, Stormyren. Very strange that Tolline does not show up as residing with Johannes, nor does she leave with Anne and Ole for the USA. Tolline is not on the 1875 censes with Ragnild and Ole either. I suppose the church records would show if she died. Barb Nelson

Forwarded for the list. Margit List Admin I recently found the farm #'s for some of my ancestors. Is there a map for Oppland that shows the farm locations with their numbers? Thanks - Mary Ann <cematapey@aol.com>
Hi, I bought some maps when I was in Norway that had the farm names on them. One for Skjåk, one for Vågå, and one for Bagn. I bought them in a book store. They were printed by: Statens Kartverk N-3500 Hønefoss They say Norge 1:50 000on the front and have a red cover. I don't know if you can order them by mail. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~maggiebakke/gudbrands.html At the page above I have a picture of the Gudbrandsdal Lag Meeting held in Fergus Falls, Minnesota in 1920. I have had requests from people as to if anyone on the pictures have been identified. If you have identified anyone, please send me a note with the location on the picture of your people and names and I will add the names to each picture. Remember there are five scans of one long picture and some people will overlap on the pictures. Thanks, Margit List Admin.
