    3. Here is a report on my great grandparents and grand father Lars P. This is all I know of their life near and in Barnseville. Wondering if there is a way to find the farm near Wolverton they had (I could not find and land records ), what type of farming they did, and did Lars P. live there also. He married my grandmother in Hudson Wisc. so I am curious as to how long he lived with his parents in Wolverton such a great distance back then from Hudson Wisc. I do have some information on Peter Melbostad who I believe was a prominent citizen of Barnesville. Descendants of Anders Pederson Pederson (Andrew P. Melbostad) Generation No. 1 1. ANDERS PEDERSON PEDERSON (ANDREW P.4 MELBOSTAD) (PEDAR LARS SON3 MELBOSTAD, LARS PEDERSON2 BJERKE, PEDER A.1 ROSSUM) was born September 23, 1827. He married SIRI ELLINGSDATTER (SIGRID LYNNE). Notes for ANDERS PEDERSON PEDERSON (ANDREW P. MELBOSTAD): He arrived in the US in 1854 and was married at Muskego Wisconsin that same year. In Norway his name had been Anders Pederson , but because of the commonnes of that name he changed it to Anders P Melbostad. Melbostad was the name of their farm in Norway and he adopted the first letter of Pederson for a middle initiial as did his son Lars. After their marriage they lived at Muskego until 1858, then moved to a farm in Dakota County, Minnesota near Lakeville. From the date you can readily see that they were among the early pioneers in Minnesota. They lived there for twenty-four years, until 1882 when they moved to another farm near Barnesville (Wolverton). In 1900 he retired from farming and moved into a small home in the town of Barnesville. Mrs. Melbostad died there on Sept. 6, 1905 after a long illness resulting from an accident.Mr Melbostad also died in the same town on August 21, 1907. i. CAROLINE (CARRIE5 MELBOSTAD. ii. I'd be delighted to receive a GEDCOM. I doubt that I have any info that you don't, but I'll be happy to share if I see any holes in the data you provide. Many thanks. Peter J. Arnesen

Peder's father was Christoffer PEDERSEN (abt 1635-?), but I don't know his mother's name. Soennoev's father was Amund OLUFSEN (?-abt 1715) and Ann ULUFSDATTER (?-?). 3. Another factor that may drive your decision is the capability of your genealogy software. I use The Master Genealogist (TMG) which allows you to store unlimited names for the same person. I therefore use the farm name as the surname (usually) and the given name and patronymic as the given name. If my ancestor had a permanent, fixed surname, however, I use that as the surname. In your Landgraff case, that's probably what I'd do. Peter J. Arnesen > How you choose to do this is a matter of personal preference, the important thing is that you remain consistent > with whatever way you choose to do this. > > I have chosen to list my ancestors with their given name and their patronymic (i.e. Olsen, Pedersen, etc.). 3. Hei Bill, How I do it is: Ole Svendsen Midtaunet Ramlo Therefore, anyone coming after me will know to look in the Bygdebok's on the Midtaune/Midtaunet/Ramlo Gaards for information. Ole, son of Svend, born on Midtaune, Died on Ramlo. I always put down all the farms/gaards that I find them living on, as then someone searching should know enough to check all of them. A farm name is more of an address then a name. Of course those who came to America often took the farm/gaard name for a surname. This confuses us all at times and keeps us busy looking. My ggrandfathers name at birth was Svend John Olsen f.1850 (illeg). I know where his father came from which was Ramlo. But, his father in 1857 bought Nysetvold farm. Therefore, when my ggrandfather came to America, I have found him under John Olsen Nysetvold/Nysethvold/Nesvold/Naesvold and other variables. Be open to any spellings for any records over 100 years old. :-)) They are only as good as the person transcribing the handwritten records. Any more questions, please ask. 3. How you choose to do this is a matter of personal preference, the important thing is that you remain consistent with whatever way you choose to do this. I have chosen to list my ancestors with their given name and their patronymic (i.e. Olsen, Pedersen, etc.). The farm name I include in the notes. I chose this method because many of my ancestors lived on several different farms, which were to numerous to include all in the name field.
