I have found the Christian Iversen family on the 1865 census for Sør Fron, Oppland County. It shows that they are living on the Kirkeeng farm. On the census after the farm name there is the following: (a). I am not familiar with what that means. When I search for the Kirkeeng Farm I get 0 answers. I have checked Garder Og Slekter I Fron by Hovdhaugen and do not find a farm with that name listed. I would appreciate any assistance anyone can give me. Dean C Hagen
I will be out of the office starting 07/10/2006 and will not return until 07/24/2006. I will probably be able to check my e-mail occasionally.
With a little more digging, in FamilySearch this time, I have found the following by going to (http://snipurl.com/19tf) and just typing in "stenersen" in the last-name field: #123. Ingebjor STENERSDOTTER, born about 1537 in Kravig, Nore, Buskerud (community lines may have changed...). Parents were Stener HALVORSEN and Ragnhild TORESDOTTER. #124. Bjorn STENERSEN, born 1540 in Kravig, Nore, Buskerud. Parents were Stener HALVORSEN and Ragnhild TORESDOTTER. #125. Gunul STENERSEN, born about 1650 in Kravig, Nore, Buskerud. Parents were Stener TORESEN KRAVIG and Ambjor GUNULSDOTTER. #126 & 127. Halvor STENERSEN born about 1647 in Kravig, Rollag, Buskerud; died on 20 October 1724. Parents were Stener TORESEN KRAVIG and Ambjor GUNULSDOTTER. #128. Margit STENERSDOTTER, born about 1648 in Kravig, Rollag, Buskerud. Parents were Stener TORESEN KRAVIG and Ambjor GUNULSDOTTER. And on and on and on... MANY Stenersens / Stenersdatters for Nore/Rollag, specifically in KRAVIG. Please let us know if these fit into your line. Have a nice day! It would be most helpful if you could provide us with some details on this name. Do you have any given names, dates (birth, marriage, emigration, death, etc.), which would help us in finding more useful information? For example, in the 1801 census (http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe) there are two KRAVIG farms (nordre & sondre / north and south), but no Stenersens. BUT, there is a "Steener" Halvorsen, age 7, on Kravig Nordre and "Steener Halvorsen, age 21 (step-son), on Kravig Sondre. One of these MIGHT be the line you are looking for, but no guarantee... Then, in the 1865 & 1900 census reports, I find NO farm by this name. So, there may have been a change in ownership. Local historians may be able to help much more on this. Going by the "Steener - Stenersen/datter" name, I find six people in the 1801 census, 40 in the 1865 census, and eight in the 1900 census - all STENer (not STEENer). I find NO variation of the name of Kravig as a family name in any of the three census reports. If you have more data, I'd be happy to help, if I can. Have a nice day! The information abut Guri's birth was different by 5 years, but it turns out it is correct, as it matches a photo of a tombstone available online in Kewaunee, WI.
Guri was the daughter of Ola Torsteinsson d.e (1767-1838) and Ingeborg Maria Olsdotter Edsvold, Krøsseikra (1773-?) They were married in 1796. Guri was born in 1798, not 1792. Ola's parents were Torstein Olsson Grihamar (1742-1814) and Guri Olsdotter Leine (1744-1804). They were married in 1762. Ola d.e. was their eldest child. Ingeborg's parents were Ole Edsvold (1737-1807) and Cecelia (Sissel) Jørgensdotter Bratt (1737-1823) They married in the fall of 1762, Knut Nilsson Hermundstad was born in 1793 to Nils Knutsson Høle (Holein) (1755-1823) and Sigrid Knutsdotter Øye (?1764-1825). They married in 1792. I have some information on Nils Knutsson's parents, but the dates don't make sense. I will send it when they do. This information came from Vang Bygdebok A. I am related to many of the farms in Vang. My dad was born there. I spent a few weeks last summer photographing farms six generations back. Roxanne, I ran some preliminary checks. The only match I find coming close to your info is in FamilySearch: (http://snipurl.com/19tf) But Indiana's name is 'slightly' different. That may have happened in transcription. Their marriage date is given as 28 July 1872 in Bjornor, Sor-Trondelag, NOT Oppland. You have complete dates for Daniel and Indiana's birth and death, but WHERE would be helpful. For example, in the 1865-telling for Bjørnør (#1632) Sor-Trondelag (http://snipurl.com/sspf) I found a Daniel Mortens., age 23 (which matches your birth date of 1843). He is living on the Sørmelan, Kværnland farm with his parents and siblings (8). (IF this is your man, keep in mind that the young girl at the bottom (Peternelle Nielsd.) MIGHT be a younger sister of the children's mother (Jacobea Nielsd.). I cannot find Indiana in this community, so Daniel may have traveled to find his bride and bring her home. So, I took another look in FamilySearch for ALL provinces and found Indiane Justine Johansen(datter) born on 28 May and christened on 8 July 1849 in Fosnes, Nord-Trondelag (http://snipurl.com/19tf). Her parents are listed as Johan PEDERSEN and Ingeborg MORTENSDATTER. Armed with this info, I went back to the 1865-telling for Fosnæs (#1748) and found (http://snipurl.com/ssqm). Here are the above three (Indiane and her parents) living at Bredveien farm with her siblings. On the same farm is Morten OLSEN, father of Ingeborg. Because the 1875-tellings are incomplete, it will be more difficult to find Daniel and Indiane together at that time. Did they emigrate from Norway? If so, when? Because these people are not in Oppland, may I suggest you post your request for assistance on the Norway List? Here's their website (http://www.rootsweb.com/~norway/NorwayList.htm). They, too, are great at assisting you. Margit, Thank you. Yes, I've pretty much gleaned everything from those databases on-line. What I'm looking for now are pre-1842 records. And the search goes on... Have a nice day! In the Oppland digitized parish registers (http://snipurl.com/sqpu) there are 47 entries. However, I find nothing for the Øyer community (I am specifically interested in the 1800-1900 period, at this time). Question: Should I be looking for Øyer's information under another community? Or should I be more patient for the Øyer data to become digitized? Have a nice day! Clark in Japan
