Alexander was not a very common Norwegian name, so that makes it easier. Unless his name wasn't really Alexander and it was Anglicized. Do you have any dates for Alexander? Where did you get the info about Svennes and Oppland? Maybe there is more info that doesn't seem to mean anything to you, but for a Norwegian genealogy specialist, it will be clear as a bell. Please share all that you know :) I did a search for Svennes as a place of birth, and there is a Svennes local parish, in Oppland. So that could be very good info. It seems like it might be in Nordre Aurdal main parish today. The 1865 digitized Norway census indicates that there were 114 farms in the Svennes Local parish. I did find this listed at the LDS website, familysearch.org when I searched for him. We are way off. It says this for their marriage: Alexander HUSTON - Ancestral File Gender: M Marriage: 29 Mar 1864 Svennes, Oppland, Norway but then when you click on their names, it lists them as born in about 1700 for him and 1704 for her. Alexander HUSTON (AFN: 1SLL-5KD) Pedigree Sex: M Family Event(s): Birth: Abt 1700 , Washington, Pa Marriage(s): Spouse: Mary Ann (AFN: 1SLL-5LL) Family Mary Ann (AFN: 1SLL-5LL) Pedigree Sex: F Family Event(s): Birth: Abt 1704 , Washington, Pa Marriage(s): Spouse: Alexander HUSTON (AFN: 1SLL-5KD) Family Marriage: So whoever did the original research and documentation, needs to review this information and indicate which was the correct year. You can order microfilm copies of those same records through any LDS Family History Center. It appears that their microfilm #0125518 should include 1869 marriage records for that parish. If you've never studied the Norwegian parish records before there is a helpful 'how-to' article about the topic that you can study - http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~norway/articles.html

Hello, Just back from Sor Fron, and Nord Fron. Fron is the kommune divided into Nord and Sor Fron after 1850. Some kind person told me many months ago to go to the website for Nord Fron historical society for information ( _http://www.fron.historielag.org_ (http://www.fron.historielag.org) )- from that history center I picked one person from the list and asked for help. The historielag sent me my grandfather's history from Nord Fron and his mother's history from Sor- Fron. They also told me about relatives that are still living there. I just met all my second cousins that live in Nord Fron and Sor Fron. My great grandmother, Ragnhild Oldsdatter was from Golobrenna- so you know the name of the farm your ancesters were from? Gudbrandsdalen Valley is so beautiful, I hope you get a chance to go some day. Barb of Minnesota
Svennes is both a farm and a parish in Nord-Aurdal, Oppland. Dave Churness from California
Hi all, I have an update on my Ingebor below as I went to Houston County Minnesota last week to do some research. I found the confirmation record of my great grandfather and it stated the following for his confirmation on October 7, 1866. Carl Johan Knudsen born April 11, 1852 in Valdres Parents listed as: Ingebor Gulbrandsdatter Knud Rye (listed as dead in the record) I am suspecting they came from Svenes, does anyone have any Bygdeboks for that area of Norway? Or would anyone know anything about the Rye Gård in the Valdres area? Thanks much for any input.
