My grandfather Alfred Hanson lived in carbury, North Dakato and was a Bratraaget. He died when my mom was 12, so probably 1932. My grandmother's family came from Sor Fron, so that is why I think the Bratraaget's were from that area too.
Hi Margit, He shows up at ancestry.com in Civil War Pension Index: General Index to Pension Files, 1861-1934. He filed for invalid pension on 7 April 1885 and his widow Barbara filed for widow's pension on 9 November 1888. Her residence is listed as Minnesota. Deb C
Hi Margit! Did you check with just a single 'm'? I shouldn't ask, you're better at this than I am. Olaf Hi Olaf, I checked, he is not there. A gentleman in Norman County of Minnesota is researching all the Civil War Veteran's who lived in the County. We know this so far: American Civil War Soldiers Name: Knud Ammundson , Enlistment Date: 17 June 1864 Distinguished Service: DISTINGUISHED SERVICE Side Served: Union State Served: Minnesota Unit Numbers: 1152 1152 Service Record: Enlisted as a Private on 17 June 1864 at the age of 40 Drafted in Company D, 3rd Infantry Regiment Minnesota on 17 June 1864. Discharged Company D, 3rd Infantry Regiment Minnesota on 15 July 1865 In the 1880 Census he is living in Norman County, after that he disappears. He is however buried in a cemetery about 4 miles from me here at Flom and at one time owned the quarter of land just to the east of where I live. I do not find his wife or any of his children in any census after 1880. I highly suspect he died (No death date or birth date in his burial record) and they moved on up to Canada or back to Norway. Margit

John, Thank you for correcting and educating me. I used Tolken ONLY and see I should have also looked into my Einar Haugen dictionary and other resources before putting out false info. In those records you can expect to find births/baptisms, marriages, and deaths - also confirmations and other events in the church life. Nord Aurdal church records are available for years as early as 1692 so you should be able to track a good number of earlier generations for this ancestral line. There is an excellent online 'how-to' guide that will help you understand how to read and use those Norwegian church records (and a nice list of word translations) at this website - http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~norway/articles.html
> Føderaadskone = a woman on state support Nope, she was not on state support. She, or her husband, had sold her farm and as part of the sale she was supported by the new owner. The new owner could be a relative (also one of her own children), or another buyer. As part of the deal, she would enjoy housing and life support in exchange for a reduction in the purchase price. The contract would normally be in force for the reminder of her life. John Morten

Dates, if not known - time frames, would be most helpful. And Olaus could be Ole, Ola, Olaf, Olav, etc...... For your information, THON is a farm in Nordre Aurdal, if you were not already aware. I'd love to help, but more specifics are necessary in order to narrow down the search and find the RIGHT person. Have a nice weekend! Clark in Japan
