I have a Rebecca Jane (NOLAN) CUNNEYWORTH who died in childbirth May 31, 1889, in Carleton Place, Ontario, aged 20 years, buried at St. John’s Anglican church in Lanark county, near Innisville (an hour’s drive west of Ottawa). Rebecca’s grave is next to that of her father, James S. Nolan (1842-1916), his wife, Jane Cunningham, (1840-1919) and their children. The Nolan family marker is a modern gravestone, possibly 1970s era. Somebody has made a significant effort to maintain a memorial for this family. Shortly after Rebecca’s death, her husband John Thomas CUNNEYWORTH was in Owen Sound, Ontario c. July 27, 1889, where their son James died at the age of 2 months. It is possible that John was staying with his parents, William and Margaret, during this period of mourning over the recent death of his wife. Ancestry.com has a reference to a “Cuneyworth” in the Duluth, Minnesota Directories, 1890-92. John Thomas died Mar 26, 1926 in “Ray”(?) Township, Koochiching County, Minnesota, cause of death “ulcer of stomach”. He was buried in International Falls March 31, 1926. John’s Minnesota death certificate lists his occupation as camp cook. The complete lack of known details in this document suggests that he was not in the company of friends when he died. In addition to Rebecca, other Nolans buried at St. John’s Anglican church include: Elizabeth A. (1863-1881), George H. (1878-1878), James E. (1873-1873), James S. (1842-1916), Jane Cunningham (1840-1919), Mary Ida (1875-1881) and William J. (18??-18??), all in the same grave site, and Peter and Sarah at another grave.
