I know he died in Youngstown, but I don't know where he was born. He married Margaret McGavin, and they had a son, William Donald. James was a sergeant in the Youngstown police force for a while. I have heard from some of my relatives that our name used to be O'Nolan, but they dropped the 'O' when they came to the US. I think they came from Ireland, but not sure. I think James was the first one to come over, but I have no proof. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

To be more accurate, I am talking about William Nolan (I) and william Nolan (II). William (II) was born on Jan 8,1860 in Cork. He worked as a sailor and married Annie McHenry in Chicago USA on May 4, 1884. William (I) was from Cork. Mary Corbis according to Cook County Vital Statistics was the mother of William (II). Apparently William (I) was married to Mary Corbis but I do not know if she was the one and only and whether there were any other William (I) children. Because William (II) was born in 1860 I assumed that William (I) was living in 1850---about the time of Griffith's valuation. But here is my brick wall---I have to find cemetary records, death certificates, church records of birth marriage and death(God bless England).

I did manage to contact Tom Nolan in Newbridge, co. Kildare who is the new clan leader. I live in Carlow but I used to live in London and be in touch with the Nolan representative over there. where are you? it is always interesting to know what part of the world nolans hail from - I am presuming you are a nolan. I was searching graveyards tonight in Carlow, Killeshin and Graiguecullen - no luck. I need to go back to the parish records. Luckily my family all come from around here on both parents side and they did not appear to travel very far. keep in touch if you have any information on Nolans in the Graiguecullen/Sleaty area of Carlow/Laois.
