Hi, I have been told that Knowling is Nolan and other spellings. I have Knowlings in Jefferson county, Tennessee. They came from North Carolina. Daniel D Knowling was born in NC but came to TN by the 1830 census. I can find no info on him anywhere. I have seen the name spelled so many different ways that I am afraid I am missing a different spelling and missing out on info. Does anyone out there have info on Knowlings in NC? Perhaps I should give up since its so long ago. I mean how far can a person go back in the past and expect to find info? Still, I sure would like to know more about these Knowlings. Right now any Knowlings would be more than I have. Thanks! Tracy Estepp

She wrote on the back of the picture 1113 Mulbery St., Mt. Carmel, Illinois. I believe she would have sent this to my great grandfather in the 1920's or 1930's. My great grandfather was Thomas Ben Nowlin from Virginia. He was in Canada when he received the picture. I'm trying to find out if the D. J. Nolen was his brother David and how they are connected to Mrs. Jean Nolan.

I've posted this on other Irish lists and thought I'd try here, too. Does anyone have any knowledge of my family in County Roscommon or suggestions for further research? Katherine Nolan was born circa 1861 in County Roscommon,Ireland. She emigrated circa 1865 to Brooklyn,NY,USA as a 4 year old child. Her father is Michael F. Nolan, b. 1825-1830 in Ireland and her mother is Jane O'Brien, b.Oct. 1825,Ireland. I've traced them in Brooklyn but not Ireland. Michael's father is Thomas Nolan and his mother is Catherine ... Jane's father is unknown but her mother is Mary Ryan. Both sets of Katerine Nolan's grandparents are probably born around 1800 to 1808. In searching Griffith's Valuation for Thomas Nolan or any Nolans,O'Brien/Briens or Ryans in County Roscommon I found the following:(Parish-date-townland-name-acres-tithes(vicar-lay) 1.St.John's- 17 Oct.1826- Carnagh East- Patk. While this will need further research, it appears that this Thomas is Michael's father and that Michael Nolan was born in Carnagh East, St.John's parish. (May be true for his children as well.) It also indicates possible relationship with Mathew, who was adjacent to him in 1826, and Patk. and Pat Nolan.( Patk. and Pat Nolan may or may not be one individual.) My mother's maiden name was Mary Elizabeth Concah and I would like to find out more about her family. I have not actively persued it, but for a long time I have meant to try. She came from Ireland with her family and lived in Manchester I think her father's name was Frederick Concah. She had three sisters and a brother and married my father William Henry Clarke sometime in the 1920s, I was born in 1926 and have two sisters and two brothers. My mother died in 1944 and was buried in Manchester. I was in the Royal Navy and moved to Wales and had lost contact with my mother's family. I suppose it may be a very loose end, but it may help Bye Bill Clarke
Hi Folks, This may be a shot in the dark, especially with a reply to a gateway from a message board, But my wife's great-grandmother was Bridget Nolan, born abt 1878, from County Wexford who married a David O'Connor, born abt 1870, from Knocknagree, County Cork and ended up in South Glens Falls, NY. Thier daughter Mary was born 1895 in Glens Falls, NY. I know that isn't much to go on but it's all I have. Rick Shea Schenectady, NY
