One of the family members is said to "have died while working on a cattle drive in 1904 near San Antonio, NM. His two sons who were with him took his body to the Catholic Church in San Antonio and he was buried in an unmarked grave there in the Catholic Cemetery next to the church" One very nice person has give me some history on the Catholic Church and Cemetery at San Antonio. From the information provided, it appears there was an earthquate there in 1905 and the church was rebuilt at it's present location. The cemetery was moved to about a quarter of mile north of the present day church. It was each family's responsibility to move persons of their family buried there. It is doubtful that my Casner person was moved. It seems that "the old church ruins are in the vieja plaza and only the adobe walls are left. A road runs thru part of the old campo santo. The campo santo was in front and side of the old church" I am assuming 'campo santo' means cemetery. I had a friend who was driving to AZ and went thru San Antonio and took photos of the present day church and cemetery for me. This was before I learned about the site of the old church. However, I really want some photos of the old chuch and cemetery (of what remains). Is there anyone reading this list who is actually in Socorro County or within reasonable driving distance who would be willing to take some photos for me. I would like to have some close up photos of the old church walls and of where the old cemetery would have been (weeds and all). When I have this done, I usually have them purchase a one time use camera, take the photos, then mail the camera to me and I will have the film developed. I will also reimburse the person for cost of camera, postage and a little over. I live in Oklahoma and it is unlike that I will get to NM to do this myself. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. If there is someone who might be willing to do this, please contact me off the list. Also, in exchange, I would be willing to do research here in Oklahoma for that person at the Oklahoma State Historical Library/Archives. ============================== Census images 1901, 1891, 1881 and 1871, plus so much more.
