My two cents worth: I am not receptive to the central database proposal at this time. Myself and the volunteers work too hard to create our web page and all of it's content. We have ongoing files and are always trying to add cemeteries as well. I respect the idea, but don't want the concept (at least not at this time). Richard Eddy County, NM

To the NM EC: Will the Election Committee or the NM State Coordinator please inform the membership the date these statements were placed on the NMGenWeb home page: See: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nmgenweb/Election2006/instruct2006.html "NMGenWeb county coordinators (CC), Assistant State Coordinators (ASC) and the State Coordinator (SC) are reminded that there are By-laws in place on the National site. These By-laws also explain the USGenWeb's request for inclusion of certain links and logos on all county and state sites. It is the responsibility of the SC and each CC to place these links and logos on their state and county sites. The USGenWeb By-laws also provide guidelines governing state elections. The following election instructions are approved by the NMGenWeb Election Committee for this first NMGenWeb election for the position of State Coordinator. These election committee instructions will be posted on the state site for future elections. The next committee will revise as necessary. 1.. The NM SC shall be elected to a two-year term. 2.. A majority of those NM CCs voting shall elect. "Majority" will be determined by the number of CCs voting in the election during the specified voting period (e.g., if 15 votes are received, then 8 will be considered majority). In the event of a tie, the Acting State Coordinator will vote and select the new SC. 3.. All NM CCs currently listed on the NMGenWeb list of county sites shall be eligible to vote. Look-up volunteers and transcribers are not eligible to vote in this election. 4.. A plurality vote is the largest number of votes to be given any candidate or proposition when three or more choices are possible; the candidate or proposition receiving the highest number of votes has a plurality. A plurality that is not a majority never chooses a proposition or elects anyone to office. If there is a plurality vote without a majority vote there will be a runoff between the candidates receiving the two highest vote counts. Also, Please refer to above provision: "County Coordinators will cast their votes for State Coordinator. Note: Each CC may cast one vote regardless of the number of counties hosted." A 100,000 name database takes up less room that 1000 photos. I don't care if it wastes bandwidth. The CCs would have to discuss the idea and agree? Yes, indeed. A few states are just beginning to think about State-databases. We could be a leader. We are small enough to make it happen. Charles, I like the idea of a database to sort all the wonderful information that's contained on the various county pages. We really have a wealth of information, but it's hard knowing what's out there without going into each county page. Great idea! Good Morning, Subject: Proposed NMGenWeb Database Project On or about 1998 I proposed that NMGenWeb establish a NMGenWeb database composed of data appearing on the county pages. I suggest again that NMGenWeb establish a State-wide database. I'm willing to serve as LC or project coordinator, format and arrange data that the CCs allow access. Thank you Susan and all the County Coordinators that have written to me privately and on the list. I truly wish more people would have participated as I know we have a lot of very intelligent and experienced CC's in NM. My term of office does not start until Jan. 1st. THANK YOU Susan for your dedicated service to all of us and for being a really great State Coordinator. It would have suited me just fine if you wouldn't have stepped down, but I do understand your time commitments. I do hope you will stay on with us as one of our CC's. Thanks Susan. It was fun to get noticed for an ancestor I was so proud to descend from and that I had so much fun finding out. Thanks for checking it out and letting us know what you thought.
