    3. Good morning all, I think the suggestion from Pat was a really good one. There's not much reason to have queries posted out there if the email address is wrong and people can't get in touch with the Query poster. In a perfect world we really should go through our Query pages and update them for the optimum benefit of our researchers. With that said, and notice I said "in a perfect world", I just have to many projects going on to do this. Right now I'm sitting on over a thousand photos from one of my Counties that I need to process, which will take me quite a bit of time, plus we have two other projects going on that I need to keep up with. So this is also beyond my capacity to do at this time. Angela, I truly appreciate you going through the State Queries and finding the bad addresses so I can remove them. And I'm sure our researchers, like Pat, will appreciate it also. I love suggestions coming in to the List. We may not all be able to do it right now, but it's thoughts and ideas that we can keep in mind for when we do have some downtime. And please all of you remember that these are "suggestions" not "requirements" by any means. But I have been in Pat's shoes many times. So I would like to suggest that if you find a Query that you know the answer to, send a test message to that person before you do any research, verifying the address first. Have a great day, Karen

    3. Hi everyone -- Since this past weekend, I've been sending out about 10 emails a night. Yes, they're time consuming but I want to get it done. I've got all the surname listing emails sent out (for Bernalillo), and a good portion of them have already rejected. Now I'll be starting on the queries that are posted on the site. I guess it's because I'm one of those that does lookups for others all the time...I'm listed on genealogy sites all over the place. There's been many times that I've done the same thing as this Pat....prepared a response only to have it come back to me. Arrrgggghhh. When I first started co-hosting San Miguel county with Susan, one of the first things i did was send a quick "form letter" email to every query listed -- five pages -- and ended up with about 20 and of those I was able to "close" out almost half of them with the records I have at home. So that's what I'll be doing next with Bernalillo county. However, I am single and it's just me and my dog, and I don't have half the responsibilities that many of you have so I'm able to do this. You're right Harold about the underwear comment! Angela

    3. The idea sounds good, but I don't have time to do it. Perhaps if I delete all queries that are older than one year old it would be manageable. The idea of inviting people to include a mailing address is a good one. Some are hesitant to post their mailing address on the Internet, though. The invalid e-mail addresses have made me consider linking to the free Ancestry.com message boards and discontinuing doing live queries altogether. If someone writes to tell me an e-mail link doesn't work, I remove the query. 3. This is so special Angela, thank you for sharing this with us. We work and put out so much effort to do what we do, it's nice to know we are so appreciated. I'm happy that you could find some information to help Patti. I also hope this inspires some of our other CC's to do the same, go through your sites and see if there's some people you can make contact with. You all are also welcome to go through the State Queries for unknown Counties, to see if you recognize the names and can help these folks out. I know they would appreciate it also. I also asked these people to write a little paragraph telling me who they were searching for. This project needed to get done, as it's important to keep the email addresses verified. 3. Hi Karen, I'd like to make a suggestion please. I've been thinking of some type of directory for the front page of NMGenWeb. There's a lot of good stuff within the counties that would be helpful to everybody else. For example, look at the items listed on the Hildalgo County page. Extracting some of these: - Locating Catholic Church Records in NM - NM Vital Records - NM Death Index Then, there's info on Harold's pages containing maps and other links that is super! Anyway, these type of links would be helpful to the person visiting NMGenWeb as they cover all of NM and not just a particular county. Thanks! 3. As I sit here contemplating the roads we have walked this year and the horizons we hope to see in the New Year my thoughts go astray to each individual that has touched my life this year. My wish for each of you is that in this new year you will find peace and contentment, that you will each reach out to someone new in your lives and give them a helping hand with absolutely no thought of recompense, that you will heal any old hurts that have passed through your lives that are unresolved, that you will smile at strangers and hug the people you know and love, that you will say "I love you" often and with sincerity. I wish for you the opportunity to point out the sparkle of the stars to a child that is afraid of the dark, and the opportunity to open a door for an elderly or assist them across the street. I wish for you the ability to drop a handful of change into a homeless persons hand with no thought of what they may do with it, knowing that it's not their deeds that are important, but yours. I hope that each and every one of you have the opportunity to work with someone that needs a "ME attitude" turned into an "US attitude". Because in wishing these things for your new year, and striving to meet these small goals I know you will receive the serenity that will fulfill your lives. Each of you have touched my life in various ways and I am ever so thankful that you have come into my life, to encourage me to keep striving, to keep going, to do what no one else wants to do, to comfort me in MY time of need. I truly thank you for this, you've made my life so much fuller and so much more enjoyable. It doesn't matter if we are serious in looking for our ancestors, or if we are joking around just having fun, my life has been richer because of you. THANK YOU. And I hope I have added at least a small degree of happiness to your life also. I look forward to working with each one of you in the new year and hope we can help each other, regardless of the need. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL, Karen Taos County up and running also!
