    3. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bosque Lover" <nana321@earthlink.net> To: <USGENWEB-SW-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, July 17, 2005 6:06 PM Subject: [USGenWeb-SW] Next I'm not sure if any of you are following the "discussions??" on Board L, but want to bring you up to date. There have been many storms in our area, & my internet time has been limited so I intend to include a motion, & the "amendment" all in one email. Comments? Bettie <>< --------------------------------- I move that the current grievance procedures committee (members: Betsy Mills, Angie Rayfield, Jan Cortez, Denise Woodside, Don Kelly) be enlarged to add 5 members, to be chosen from volunteers from the project membership, with the slate approved by the Advisory Board, and that any future vacancies in the procedures committee be filled by project volunteers. I further move that the National Coordinator request a permanent e-mail list be set up for the use of the grievance procedures committee, to be turned over to the future Grievance Committee for their use when procedures are in place. The list discussions will be archived, and permanently open to all project members on a read-only basis; during the discussion of grievance procedures, the list may be opened for posting by all subscribers by majority vote of the procedures committee. Incidentally, since the question keeps coming up -- If a position becomes vacant (for instance, Betsy has resigned from the committee, creating a vacancy) the vacant position will be filled by a non-AB member, but the wording of the motion does not require any board member to resign from the GPC if/when their term of office ends. ---------------------------- Then here's an amendment, that our NC calls "an amendment by substitution" even though this was not worded that way. -- OK. This seems to work. I move to amend motion 05-12 to read: I move that the current Grievance Procedure Committee be officially dismissed with thanks. The National Coordinator shall form a new Grievance Procedure Committee to be composed of seven volunteers, two (2) from the Advisory Board and five (5) from the general membership. Replacements for vacancies on this committee will maintain 5-2 balance and a mailing list will be provided. ==== USGENWEB-SW Mailing List ==== The Advisory Board: http://www.usgenweb.com/about/advisoryboard.shtml

    3. I want to thank everyone that offered to do look-ups for me in the Santa Cruz marriages. I apologize for not getting back to all of you sooner. We have been on stand-by evacuation due to the big fire up here, and we were only using our phones in case of emergency. It is very clear here today even though the fire is only 40% contained so we expect to be taken off stand-by some time this afternoon. I did get an offer for the book but I do thank all of you for your generous offers. Karen

    2. Susan Bellomo
    3. Wilson-Cobb History & Genealogical Research Library is sponsoring another workshop with John Sellers, courthouse records expert, on October 15 in Roswell, NM. Details in the preliminary flyer are on the Chaves County Web site: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nmchaves/jsellers.html I attended John's workshop in October 2003, and it was excellent. He presented a thorough set of tools for doing courthouse research and examples. The workshop includes lunch, snacks, and beverages, and it was terrific! You can eat your heart out, and there is a plentiful supply of a wide variety of delicious foods at these workshops. If you can come to Roswell for this Saturday workshop, I highly recommend it. The cost has not been posted on the flyers yet, but in the past it has been quite reasonable for a full-day workshop. Susan

    3. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Shari Handley" <srh@tyaskin.com> To: <STATE-COORD-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, June 15, 2005 11:20 PM Subject: [STATE-COORD] October: Family History Month Dear USGenWeb Coordinators, One of our County Coordinators wrote to me and pointed out that October is "Family History Month" and suggested that this yearly event would be a wonderful opportunity for USGenWeb to promote the concept of free online genealogy. She suggested that perhaps a proclamation could be drafted and sent out by coordinators from the National level on down to counties, to local governmental agencies, newspapers and other media outlets. Other activities may also be fun and helpful in spreading the word about USGenWeb and promoting this hobby of ours. I'd like to form a grass-roots USGenWeb committee to come up with and implement ideas and plans for Family History Month, to brainstorm and facilitate activities and/or materials for USGenWeb nationally, and that State Coordinators and County Coordinators could tap into. If you'd be interesting in participating in this endeavor, please send me an email. Please also indicate whether you'd be willing to chair such a committee. :) Many thanks to Davison County, SDGenWeb Coordinator Andy (Andrea) Sindt for bringing this idea up! 1. Fw: USGW Candidate Forum Invitation 2005 Elections
    2. Susan Bellomo
    3. Hey, Wild Bunch. This is strictly FYI with no recommendation one way or the other. It has filled up my mailbox with messages stating the pros and cons of the forum, and the bylaws amendment. Susan Sent: Wednesday, June 15, 2005 8:29 AM Subject: USGW Candidate Forum Invitation 2005 Elections Dear State Coordinators, Please consider forwarding this email on to your state mail lists for your CC's. Thank you, Paulette Carpenter Dear USGW Member, It is that time of year again! Elections are coming, and this year, I would like to give every member the opportunity to really get to know the candidates in all categories. Sometimes it is really hard to vote in these elections when we are not given the tools to know the people running and all of the issues on the ballot. This year, we would like to change that. An invitation has been sent to all candidates to join an open Candidate forum. This is where you, as a voting member of the USGW can come and ask the candidates questions in order to get their views on all topics, and so that you can get to know them better. Thanks to Mike St.Clair who provided the space and the software, we have three volunteer members, who are not candidates, who will be administering the forum for you. Wally Garchow (CC for Darke & Preble Co's in OH among others), Alice Gayley (CC for Clearfield, Armstrong & Jefferson Co's in PA) and Donna Allen (CC for Giles Co., TN, Culpeper, Richomond & Rappahnnock Co., VA, McIntosh Co., GA, Moore, Klegerg, Jim Hogg Co's, TX, Co-Coordinator Texas Postcards Project, and Co-Coordinator "Getting Started in Genealogy" a Tennessee Special Project).....Thank you a million times over for caring about your project and your fellow members! The forum is now open for you to register to participate! Please consider joining us at http://election.temp-site.us/profile.php?mode=register. You will be able to ask questions of all candidates in all regions, or you may just observe the Q & A of the candidates by other members. Either way it is a tool designed to help you at Election time! We will also be discussing the proposed Bylaw change in this forum. If you didn't know, the work that the BRC did will not make it to this ballot. So there is one change being proposed, it was sponsored by 5 states. Please come in and take a look at both the good and the bad of the proposed change. I hope to see you there. Your voice and vote matters so much in how this project is run. Remember, this is your project. Please come out and vote. Sincerely, Paulette Carpenter
