She was born November 9, 1918 in Las Cruces to Benjamin Newton and Adelina Carboniere Ames. Anna Marie was a homemaker, a wonderful wife and mother and a devout member of the Roman Catholic Church. In 1937 she married David E. Valdez and together enjoyed fishing and loved to travel. A member of the VFW Women's Auxiliary Post 4384 in Anthony, she and her husband were also very active supporters of charities, especially the Catholic Church and Cristo Rey Monastery in El Paso, Texas. Those left to mourn her passing include two sons, Richard A. Valdez of Logan, Utah and David A. Valdez and wife, Vicky of Georgetown, Texas; her daughter, Gloria Valdez Tellez of Albuquerque and a sister, Genevieve Ames Hammond of Las Cruces. Other survivors include eight grandchildren, one great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers and one sister. Calling hours for Mrs. Valdez will begin at 6 PM Thursday, March 10, 2011 in the Prayer Chapel of Baca's Funeral Chapels, 300 E. Boutz Road, where the Prayer Vigil is scheduled for 7 PM. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 11 AM Friday, March 11, 2011 in St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 224 Lincoln Avenue in Anthony with the Reverend Andres Alava, Celebrant. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at 1:30 PM at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, Fort Bliss, Texas, where she will be laid to rest with her husband. Serving as casket bearers will be Richard, David, Martin and John Valdez, Robert and Russell Gibson. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Baca's Funeral Chapels of Las Cruces (575) 527-2222.
