After moving to the Las Cruces/Hatch area from Roscoe, Texas in 1930 with her family, Annabel went on to graduate from Las Cruces Union High School in 1932. After this she worked for the Las Cruces telephone company as a switchboard operator. It was during this time that she met her beloved husband, Bill Greer, an officer in the Untied States Army. Annabel and Bill were married on Valentine's Day 1943. Most of the next 35 years, they spent in various parts of the country and overseas. In 1978, they returned to Las Cruces. After more than 64 years of living and traveling together, Bill left her side on May 17, 2007, but now they are together again setting forth on another long and happy adventure together, for their love was one that death could not end. Annabel is survived by her daughter, Ada Lee Schwakhofer and Ada's husband, Frank; her son, James "Hot Dog" Greer and "Hot Dog's wife, Pam; and two grandsons, Ron Schwakhofer and Matthew Greer. She also has several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews and cousins. Still in the Las Cruces/Hatch area are her nephew, Bob Porter and her grandniece, Brenda Porter and her grand nephew, Bill Porter. From 1992 until Bill's death in 2007, their every day routine was to go to the Village Inn bright and early, Here they visited with the staff and friends before running errands and keeping appointments. The rest of their day was just being content at home in each others company. The family would like to express their enormous gratitude to our cousin, Bob Porter for the sacrifice, love and care he gave to both our father and mother. Graveside services will be at Masonic Cemetery at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, March 8, 2011. Contributions can be made in her name to Mesilla Valley Hospice, 299 E. Montana, Las Cruces, New Mexico. Arrangements are with La Paz - Graham's Funeral Home, 555 W. Amador, 526-6891.
