Wingenroth, 75, of Ephrata, PA entered into eternal rest at Ephrata Community Hospital, on Tuesday, March 1, 2011. She was born in Ephrata, to the late Harvey M. and Dorothy M. (Showers) Ecenrode. She was the devoted wife of Jack L. Wingenroth with whom she shared 56 years of marriage. Deloris, known as "Dee" to her many friends and family was a member of the Ephrata Church of the Brethren, where she taught Bible Studies and served the Church in many other capacities. She also served as chairperson on two Pastor Search committees. She was employed at Farmer's First Bank/Susquehanna Bank of Ephrata; she retired as Branch Manager after a 30 year career. She enjoyed serving the local community forming many personal and professional friendships. In November of 1982, Dee was sworn in as the first female member of the Ephrata Borough Council, on which she served 8 years. In 1988, Dee stated, "I do hope I've opened the door for other persons who may have felt somewhat intimidated or inadequate to serve on the council. A person shouldn't be afraid that he or she lacks the knowledge (to serve). You learn by participating, knowledge comes." Dee also served as Honorary Chairperson for the 2007 Cocalico/Ephrata Relay for Life, after having survived Ovarian Cancer a year earlier. In 2007 when interviewed by the Ephrata Review Dee stated, "Sometimes we are thrown together without rhyme or reason and we all somehow become friends. Friends who encourage each other and help each other. That is what happened to me when I learned that I had cancer - a new set of friends were made and with the support of each other we made it through the tough times." Dee's passion was people and making new friends. Surviving in addition to her husband, Jack, are their beloved children, Keith L. Wingenroth of Ephrata, Kent L. Wingenroth, husband of Veronica A. of Las Cruces, NM, Karen L. Arbegast, wife of Douglas K. of Langhorne. They were blessed with 6 grandchildren, Matthew Todd, husband of Ligia, Jon Michael, husband of Amy Sue, Amy Marie, Leslie Marie Higgins, wife of Jared Joseph, Michael Joseph, Elizabeth Hannah and 7 great grandchildren. Her siblings include brothers, Ronnie Ecenrode, husband of Barb of Mount Joy, Terry Detweiler of Saylorsburg, Larry Myers, husband of Dottie of Bedminister; sister, Jackie Forry, wife of Charles of NC; step-brother, Barry Ryan, husband of Donna of York; and step-sister, Linda Hopkins of GA. She was preceded in death by sister, Cheryl Saylor. A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, March 6, at the Ephrata Church of the Brethren, 201 Crescent Ave., Ephrata, with Pastor Galen Hackman officiating. Family will receive friends following the service. Light refreshments will be served. Memorial contributions in Dee's memory may be sent to Relay for Life of Norlanco, at American Cancer Society, 314 Good Dr., Lancaster, PA 17603 (please include Relay of Norlanco in memo on checks) or to the Ephrata Church of the Brethren, 201 Crescent Ave., Ephrata, PA 17522.
