JIMENEZ, 54, of Las Cruces and formerly of Bayard entered eternal life Tuesday, May 18, 2010. He was born October 12, 1955 in Silver City to Albert A. Jimenez and Ramona Young. Birdie as he was fondly known to family and friends attended Cobre High School and joined the US Army upon his graduation in 1973. He was a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division. After his military discharge, he came back to Bayard and attended WNMU, where he received his welder's certification. Birdie worked for the U.S. Forrest Service, Ft. Bayard National Cemetery, Phelps Dodge and various construction jobs. For the past 15 years he lived in Las Cruces as a retiree. Survivors include his two daughters, Yolanda and Viola Jimenez; his mother, Ramona Young Sterling all of Las Cruces; his father, Albert Jimenez and wife, Martha of Bayard; one brother, Charles Jimenez of Tucson, Arizona; six sisters, Cathy Horcasitas of Hanover, Sherri Sanchez of Tucson, Arizona, Misty Sterling of Pecos, Texas, Carolyn Ortiz, Suzanne Jimenez and Nancy Lopez all of Silver City. Other survivors include his grandchildren, Antonio Holguin, Heather Jimenez, Onti, Clotario and Manuel Holguin; his maternal grandmother, Chonita Young of Hanover; his step-father, Harvey G. Sterling and step-grandmother, Nita Baker of Las Cruces, as well as the mother of his daughters, Debbie Jimenez. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Johnny and Steven Jimenez, maternal grandfather, Manuel Young and paternal grandparents. Cremation will take place and a Memorial Mass will be held at 11 AM, Monday, May 24, 2010 in St. Anthony Catholic Church, in Fierro with Deacon Bill Holguin, officiating. The Rite of Committal and Inurnment will follow in the Fierro Cemetery. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
