USMC (RET) 1933 - 2010 Elvin B. Shaw went home to be with the Lord early Friday morning, April 23, 2010 at Pensacola, Florida. Elvin was born November 15, 1933 at Lubbock, Texas to Wade E. and Ruth Arendell Shaw. The family moved to Dickens, Texas and later to Mesilla Park, New Mexico. He attended Mesilla Park Elementary School and graduates from Las Cruces Union High School in 1952. Immediately following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served his country for the following 20 years. Elvin and his wife, Zorita made Pensacola, Florida their home after his retirement from the Marine Corps. His new venture was employment with the survey crews and traffic safety section of Escambia County, Florida, serving in that capacity another 23 years until his retirement November 30, 1995. He is survived by his wife, Zorita Shaw of Pensacola; two sisters, Jeanne Carver of Las Cruces, New Mexico and Rita Baker of Killeen, Texas; one brother, Sterling Shaw of El Paso, Texas. He is also survived by five very special step-children; Marianne Tassio, Nancy Radell, Julia White, Sarah Gievers and John White; four nieces, three nephews and number of cousins. Elvin was preceded in death by both his parents; a brother, Kenneth Shaw and three of step-children, Glenn White, Dianne White and William White. His health had been steadily declining the past two years and he knew his tired body was giving out. As he had written "I have grown tired of my sickly mortal body and am so very anxious to see and experience my new immortal body that I will receive upon my death". On April 23, 2010, his soul had taken it's flight. Life's mission here was ended. The weary body had found rest, and the spirit , with humble trust, ascended to God who gave it. A memorial service, with full military honors will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday May 05, 2010 at Barrancas national Cemetery. His cremains will be interred in the columbarium at Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola, Florida. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
